An Arizona mother has been arrested after she allegedly attacked her seven-year-old son 'for being a bad lookout for his shoplifting grandma'.

Rebecca Gonzales, 27, was detained by Phoenix police on Friday and charged with aggravated assault.

Court documents indicate that police responded to a suspected child abuse call at a Walmart on Friday night.

There, they learned that Gonzales had come to the store to pick up her seven-year-old son, who was acting as a lookout for his grandmother while she shoplifted.

Officers allegedly saw the mother slap and punch her child in the face while they were in the parking lot.

And when they saw him up close, authorities discovered that the boy's mouth was bleeding.

Police say that the child told them he was hit because 'he didn't watch out for his grandma good enough'.

The grandmother's identity has not been released and it is unknown if she was caught shoplifting.

A Phoenix mother has been sentenced to probation after punching her 7-year-old son for not being a good enough lookout for his shoplifting grandma.

Rebecca Gonzales, 28, pleaded guilty to child abuse and was sentenced to three years probation.

On April 19, 2019, Phoenix police responded to a Walmart near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road for a suspected child abuse call. Court documents state Gonzales came to the store to pick up her 7-year-old son, who was being used by his grandmother as a lookout while she shoplifted.

Officers saw Gonzales slap and punch the child in the face when she was in the parking lot. The child told police that he was hit because "he didn't watch out for his grandma good enough." Police say the child's mouth was bleeding when officers saw him.

Court records show that Gonzales will also need to complete "Anger management counseling."

According to court documents, visits with her son have been supervised by the Arizona Department of Child safety and have gone well, and she has also been meeting her probation requirements.

This woman's priorities are all messed up and I think she should have been angry at her own mother for putting her child in danger.

Anger management is not going to fix what is wrong with this poor excuse for a mother.

She had no concern that her child might have been traumatized by seeing his grandmother arrested - is she truly capable of absorbing anything.

In the future when Jr puts his hands on her I hope she just wished anger management on him.
