Two men, one of whom is a police chief, are accused by the Pennsylvania attorney general of sexually assaulting a girl hundreds of times over the course of seven years.

Brent Getz, 27, and Gregory Wagner, 28, both of Lehighton, were charged on Tuesday with rape of child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of child, and several related charges.

Getz is the chief of police for Weissport Borough Police Department in Carbon County, according to a news release from Attorney General Josh Shapiro.

“The defendants terrorized this young victim by assaulting her hundreds of times over seven years,” Shapiro said in a news release. “My office will listen to survivors and prosecute anyone who sexually abuses children to the fullest extent of the law we are able — no matter how much time has passed. I’m grateful for the work of my agents to bring these predators to justice and prevent them from harming anyone else.”

No charges were filed at the time of an initial complaint that was made against Wagner in 2012.

“In 2015, the case was reassigned and police prepared a criminal complaint charging Wagner with various crimes,” according to a news release from Shapiro’s office. “The complaint was dismissed by the magisterial district judge due to a paperwork error. The charges were never refiled.”

An officer with Franklin Township, Carbon County, revisited the case in August and asked the girl to come back in for another interview. It was then that the girl claimed that Getz had also sexually assaulted her, according to the release.

According to the criminal complaint:

ChildLine and Children and Youth Services in Carbon County received a complaint on May 10, 2012, in which the girl said that when she was left alone with Wagner, he touched her inappropriately. The girl also said she was afraid to go home.

The girl said Wagner began his assaults when she was about four years old, when he would inappropriately touch the girl and had her perform oral sex on him, according to the complaint.

When interviewed in 2018, the girl said that beginning when was six years old, Getz became a participant in the rapes, according to the complaint.

The girl also said Wagner would have pornography on in his room during the assaults, the complaint says.

A doctor conducted a physical exam on the girl in May 2012, and concluded that many of the symptoms the girl complained of were consistent with inappropriate sexual contact, according to the complaint.

Wagner was interviewed on May 18, 2012, but stopped the interview after a few minutes to speak with a lawyer, according to the criminal complaint. He was questioned again on June 20, 2013, with his lawyer present. Wagner denied ever showing the girl pornography, asking the girl to have oral sex with him, or showing her his genitals, the complaint said.

When he was asked if he ever touched the girl’s breasts, Wagner replied “not in a sexual way,” according to the complaint.

A relative of the girl provided investigators with a cell phone video sometime in 2018 that showed Wagner showing the girl pornography, the complaint said. The girl obtained the video a few months after she made the initial complaint against Wagner “because nobody believed her and she wanted to show people proof," according to the complaint.

A town with a population of 5000 and covers just under 2m. So, yeah most definitely a podunk town

Small towns are the worst places in America. THere is no such thing as small town charm, the people that reside in small towns are not polite or helpful, there are no places more morally bankrupt.

I’ve lived your point, but also the exception. I moved from a small town-a village they call themselves. Pretty town, ugly people. I moved to an even smaller town that doesn’t have a single traffic light (former had 3) We use to have one, but a few years ago a semi took it out on a wide turn and they just never replaced it. Anyhoo been here 5 years now and I have to say I don’t think you’d find more helpful and kind people anywhere. My mother, who usually sees the worst in everyone , came for a visit and said “Well you’re out in the middle of nowhere with literally nothing to do (not true) but I have to say these are the friendliest people I’ve ever met-what’s wrong with them?” And yes everyone knows everyone and their business, but it kind of comes in handy-if you can’t remember what you did the night before, someone will be sure to tell you.

A former police chief has been convicted of raping a child and related offenses in abuse the victim said began when she was about 4 years old and occurred hundreds of times over the following seven years.
The case in northeastern Pennsylvania’s Carbon County against former Weissport Police Chief Brent Robert Getz, 30, and a friend of his languished for several years after police first learned of the allegations.

In addition to the rape count, the jury found Getz, of Lehighton, guilty Thursday of one count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, and indecent assault of a child under 12. His bail was immediately revoked and he was taken to jail.

After his 2019 arrest, Getz was fired from his job as police chief in Weissport, a town of some 400 residents 77 miles northwest of Philadelphia. A message seeking comment was left for his lawyer, Brian J. Collins.

Codefendant Gregory E. Wagner Jr., 31, pleaded guilty to child rape in November 2020 and agreed to testify against Getz. Both men, who were adolescents when the abuse began, await sentencing.

According to Getz’s 2019 arrest affidavit, the victim told a substitute teacher at her elementary school in early 2012, when she was 11, that Wagner had raped her.

The Carbon County child welfare agency became involved, and the victim was interviewed by a child advocacy center in Scranton. A nurse concluded the child’s symptoms and accounts were consistent with sexual abuse.

A Franklin Township police officer spoke with Wagner in May 2012, but Wagner stopped the interview after a few minutes and obtained a lawyer, according to the affidavit.

More than a year later, in June 2013, the same officer again questioned Wagner, this time with his lawyer present, the affidavit said. Wagner denied allegations and no charges were filed.

The victim recorded a brief cellphone video of Wagner having her watch pornography “a few months after the initial complaint was made against Wagner, because nobody believed her and she wanted to show people proof,” Sean McGlinn, an agent with the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office, wrote in Getz’s arrest affidavit.

Three years later, in 2015, a criminal complaint was prepared against Wagner but was dismissed by a district judge because of what the attorney general’s office has described as a paperwork error.

A Franklin Township officer “revisited” the case in 2018, at which time the victim revealed that Getz, a friend of Wagner’s, also had sexually assaulted her, the attorney general’s office has said.

She said both men had sexually assaulted her hundreds of times, several times a week for about seven years, according to the arrest affidavit.

Hmm. My small town doesn’t come with this option; I could use it!

I guess it would help if I didn’t just drink at home, though.

Pennsylvania ex-cop Brent Getz sentenced up to 32 years for child rape

A former Pennsylvania police chief convicted of raping a child will spend at least the next 16 years behind bars.

Brent Getz, 30, was sentenced to 16 to 32 years in prison Friday after his March conviction on rape and sexual abuse charges.

Getz, was arrested in 2019 and fired as police chief in Weissport, a town of about 400 northwest of Philadelphia. Gregory Wagner, a codefendant, pleaded guilty to child rape in November 2020 and testified against Getz.

"The case in northeastern Pennsylvania’s Carbon County against former Weissport Police Chief Brent Robert Getz, 30, and a friend of his languished was pointedly ignored for several years after police first learned of the allegations."

"Three years later, in 2015, a criminal complaint was prepared against Wagner but was dismissed by a district judge because of what the attorney general’s office has described spinned as a paperwork error."

Fixed that.
