Two men, one of whom is a police chief, are accused by the Pennsylvania attorney general of sexually assaulting a girl hundreds of times over the course of seven years.
Brent Getz, 27, and Gregory Wagner, 28, both of Lehighton, were charged on Tuesday with rape of child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of child, and several related charges.
Getz is the chief of police for Weissport Borough Police Department in Carbon County, according to a news release from Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
“The defendants terrorized this young victim by assaulting her hundreds of times over seven years,” Shapiro said in a news release. “My office will listen to survivors and prosecute anyone who sexually abuses children to the fullest extent of the law we are able — no matter how much time has passed. I’m grateful for the work of my agents to bring these predators to justice and prevent them from harming anyone else.”
No charges were filed at the time of an initial complaint that was made against Wagner in 2012.
“In 2015, the case was reassigned and police prepared a criminal complaint charging Wagner with various crimes,” according to a news release from Shapiro’s office. “The complaint was dismissed by the magisterial district judge due to a paperwork error. The charges were never refiled.”
An officer with Franklin Township, Carbon County, revisited the case in August and asked the girl to come back in for another interview. It was then that the girl claimed that Getz had also sexually assaulted her, according to the release.
According to the criminal complaint:
ChildLine and Children and Youth Services in Carbon County received a complaint on May 10, 2012, in which the girl said that when she was left alone with Wagner, he touched her inappropriately. The girl also said she was afraid to go home.
The girl said Wagner began his assaults when she was about four years old, when he would inappropriately touch the girl and had her perform oral sex on him, according to the complaint.
When interviewed in 2018, the girl said that beginning when was six years old, Getz became a participant in the rapes, according to the complaint.
The girl also said Wagner would have pornography on in his room during the assaults, the complaint says.
A doctor conducted a physical exam on the girl in May 2012, and concluded that many of the symptoms the girl complained of were consistent with inappropriate sexual contact, according to the complaint.
Wagner was interviewed on May 18, 2012, but stopped the interview after a few minutes to speak with a lawyer, according to the criminal complaint. He was questioned again on June 20, 2013, with his lawyer present. Wagner denied ever showing the girl pornography, asking the girl to have oral sex with him, or showing her his genitals, the complaint said.
When he was asked if he ever touched the girl’s breasts, Wagner replied “not in a sexual way,” according to the complaint.
A relative of the girl provided investigators with a cell phone video sometime in 2018 that showed Wagner showing the girl pornography, the complaint said. The girl obtained the video a few months after she made the initial complaint against Wagner “because nobody believed her and she wanted to show people proof," according to the complaint.
