A man was arrested after police found a little girl wandering the street alone and barefoot.

Kevin Kleinknight, 36, had smoked cannabis before leaving his three children, ages 10 and under, alone for at least an hour, according to a Gainesville Police Department arrest report.

An officer found a girl, about 4 years old, running on a sidewalk and tried to locate her parents and home, the report said. When her home was identified, the only people inside were the girl’s siblings.

It was extremely dirty, with animal feces, dirty clothes and trash covering the floor, the report said.

After finding a phone number to contact the parents, the officer called them. Kleinknight’s wife said he was picking her up from work and she was on her way.

When they arrived about 20 minutes later, they admitted to regularly leaving the children unattended while Kleinknight drove his wife to work, the report said.

The wife’s workplace was a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the residence, the report said, but Kleinknight took more than an hour for the couple to return after the wife’s shift ended at 9:30 p.m.

The Department of Children and Families placed the children in the care of family members due to the home’s condition, the report said.

The wife of this turd has now been charged.
Police arrested a Gainesville woman after they said she failed to notice her 4-year-old daughter had wandered away from their home for more than 1½ hours.

Jessica Kleinknight, 29, dropped off her other two children, ages 6 and 10, at their bus stop at about 6:15 a.m. before returning home and to bed, according to a Gainesville Police Department arrest report.

Sometime between 7:30 and 8 a.m., while she slept, the 4-year-old left the house and walked about a mile total, the report said.

Kleinknight contacted police when she woke up and noticed the child was missing, the report said. She told police she is a heavy sleeper and had not heard her leave.

Police said a woman found the girl at a crosswalk, about to cross Plaza Boulevard near Dick’s Sporting Goods, the report said.

The child told police she was hungry and had not eaten that day, the report said.

The child’s father, Kevin Kleinknight, was arrested in July on a child neglect charge after the girl wandered away for several hours, barefoot. Jessica Kleinknight was at work during that incident, according to another Gainesville Police arrest report.

Since then, no corrective action has been taken by the Kleinknights to secure the residence’s door or prevent the child from leaving unsupervised, officers said.

Kevin Kleinknight pleaded no contest to the child neglect charge last Thursday, according to court records. The judge withheld a finding of guilt and sentenced him to three years of probation.
