An attack on a 12-year-old boy by his own father inside of a North Nashville apartment Wednesday night was captured on video, Metro police say.
According to an arrest affidavit, Redrick Frey, 48, and his 12-year-old son were involved in an altercation.
Police said the 12-year-old victim took video of the incident which showed Frey attempting to provoke the child into fighting him and shouting "let's go!"
The video showed Frey push the child out of the frame of the camera, officers said, as the two began to fist-fight, with the child being overpowered by his father.
Frey could be heard asking the victim "is that all you got?" then throwing the 12-year-old across the room, back out of the camera's view, police explained.
Detectives said the child can be heard off screen wheezing and telling his father that he cannot breathe as Frey responds by telling his boy that he will kill him and he doesn't care if he dies.
Frey eventually stops beating the child and leaves the room, investigators said.
In a police report, the officer who watched the video described the incident as "especially heinous, atrocious and cruel."
Detectives did not discuss the extent of the child's injuries.
Frey was charged with aggravated child abuse.
