A 22-year-old man was sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court in Klang today for the murder and burning of his pregnant girlfriend in Sabak Bernam two years ago.
Justice Norliza Othman said the crime was “premeditated, sadistic and cruel,” after Muhammad Fakrul Aiman Sajali pleaded guilty unconditionally, Utusan Malaysiareported.
The former higher education student also admitted all facts of the case and 112 exhibits presented by the prosecution.
“In this case, not only did the victim and her 18-week-old unborn child die, there were also serious injuries,” Norliza said.
“The victim’s abdomen was cut open to remove the foetus before her body was doused with petrol.
“This was a planned act intended to kill the victim.
The defence lawyer argued for a prison sentence, saying his client, 20 at the time of the incident, had been made a “scapegoat” and was not the father of the unborn child.
Police investigations revealed that the victim had been taken by the suspect in a car, assaulted, and set on fire in a plantation after a dispute over her pregnancy.
