The former assistant of Mother Teresa was killed in a bar brawl in the United Kingdom, authorities said.
Mark Bloomfield, 54, died in a hospital Saturday from injuries sustained in the altercation outside the Full Moon pub in Wales three days earlier, according to South Wales police.
The circumstances of the July 18 attack are unclear. Police said a 61-year-old man has been charged in connection with Bloomfield’s death and two others, a 21-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, were arrested and released.
Bloomfield’s family said the former special assistant to Mother Teresa in Calcutta had “believed in empowering others to help themselves and improve their circumstances.”
“Mark Bloomfield built a legacy that will continue to live on in the countless lives that he encountered,” his family said in a statement. “As special assistant to Mother Teresa in Calcutta, he was an essential contributor to her mission and to those she cared for.”
