A 2-year-old boy was found locked in a closet in a Mesa apartment Monday night, according to Maricopa County Constable Fred Arnett.

His mother, Corrina May Davis, 21, is charged with two counts of child abuse.

Arnett said he discovered the boy while serving an eviction notice at Del Coronado Apartments on South Longmore Street.

"I found the child laying there, basically in the fetal position," Arnett said. "It appeared that this (the closet) was this child's actual living quarters."

"The problem that I had was there was no visible water of any kind, there was no food. There was nothing this child could do to even sustain life," he said.

Court documents obtained by CBS 5 say the child appeared to have suffered physical and sexual abuse.

The probable cause statement says the boy had "bruising of different colors on both sides of his face, a chipped tooth, a cut and a bruised lip, bruising to his ears, bruising to his hip" and blood coming from his genitals.

Arnett said he was most disturbed by the child's response to him.

"Any 2- or 3-year-old at least cries," said the father of two young girls. "This child wouldn't even cry. This child wouldn't laugh or smile to anything we would do. In any of our attempts to get a reaction out of this child, there was nothing."

"He was so floppy and lifeless. It's like he had given up. There was no fight in this child," said Arnett.

In court records, Davis admitted to locking her son in the closet and leaving him alone while she went to work.

Davis denied abusing her son.

She told police he is "clumsy" and "walks into walls."

The boy is in CPS custody.

Arnett said he is grateful he discovered the child when he did.

"I can at least sleep better at night knowing he has to be in a better condition than he was last night," he said.

The child was transported to a local hospital for follow-up care. Wessing said his injuries were not serious or life-threatening.

The boy is in the custody of Child Protective Services.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., a man arrived at the apartment and said he was there to take care of his girlfriend's son.

He told the officers that his girlfriend, Corinna May Davis, went to work at 4:30 p.m. and left the child locked in the closet. He said that he was stuck in traffic and it took him longer to get there than he thought it would.

Wessing said Davis, 21, admitted to leaving her son in the closet without adult supervision and going to work. She said that her boyfriend told her he would be home in 20 minutes.

Davis reportedly also admitted to spanking her son with her hand and causing the bruises on his hip. Wessing said she denied any other abuse.

Davis was arrested and booked on two counts of child abuse.

This is not the first run-in Corinna Davis has had with law enforcement. According to court records, bruising to the boy's face was previously investigated. Davis said the bruises came from a fall down the stairs.

While she calls herself a proud mother on one website, another lists her as an escort. She calls herself “Barbie” on Myspace and in another ad on backpage.com filed under adult entertainment and escorts.

Davis also posted several pictures on the website, some are graphic in nature. The ad says she accepts donations and her rates are firm. She also claims she is not a prostitute but asks you to certify you are not a part of law enforcement.

Davis is on house arrest at her father's home and declined comment. 3TV spoke with her boyfriend in regard to the escort advertisement. He says Davis wanted to be a model and responded to an ad on Craigslist. He also says she was taken advantage of and is not an escort.

A 21-year-old Mesa woman accused of leaving her 2-year-old son locked in a closet of her apartment while she was at work is facing child abuse charges.

Corinna Davis was charged with two felony counts of child abuse through a direct complaint filed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.


Davis was arrested on Monday, minutes after a constable arrived to evict her from her unit in the Del Coronado apartment complex at 843 S. Longmore and discovered the boy sleeping on a mattress inside a closet with bruises on his face and hip, according to police.

The constable entered the residence with the help of a maintenance worker about 5 p.m. to inform the occupants they were being evicted. When he looked through the home, he first noticed a chair in front of a bedroom door to prevent anyone from getting out. After removing the chair and going into the bedroom, he looked inside the closet and discovered the boy, police said.

The boy also had a bruised lip, police said.

Davis told police that her boyfriend suggested she just place the boy in the closet and block the door with a chair since he thought he was going to be about 20 minutes before arriving home from work. However, the boyfriend told police he was delayed by traffic.

Davis told police that she had spanked her son earlier that day but said she didn’t know how the boy acquired the other bruises, only saying her son was clumsy and often ran into walls and falls down a lot, according to a Mesa police report.

The boy was taken out of the home and placed in Child Protective Services, according to police.

In a previous investigation in which the boy had bruising to his face, Davis told police that the boy fell on the stairs, according to the police report.

Davis is out on bond and required to wear an electronic monitoring device.

She is scheduled to appear in Maricopa County Superior Court on Feb. 9.

During Christmas, Harbison said she and other relatives noticed the boy seemed to be developmentally behind other kids his age.

Oh, wow, this broke my heart. A child beaten, neglected to the point he has given up....nothing matters. His life of 2 years has probably been a shit hole. What a disgrace this woman is, a POS whore. This child was nothing more than a inconvenience, a bother. Wtf didn't she give him up?
