Police are seeking the identity of this woman photographed with Michael Gargiulo, who is awaiting trial in Los Angeles for two murders and one attempted murder. They found the photo, likely taken around 2001, on a computer shared by Garguilo and a former girlfriend. It's been shown to scores of people related to the case, but the woman has yet to be identified.

They're also seeking the public's help in identifying a woman photographed with the alleged murderer -- a woman they believe may be a victim of Michael Gargiulo.
One victim Gargiulo is accused of slaying is fashion student Ashley Ellerin.
As Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman reported Wednesday, Ellerin dated Hollywood stars, including Kutcher.
On Grammys night in 2001, Kutcher came by a bungalow to take Ellerin to a party. He knocked on the door, but there was no answer. So, Kauffman says, he went around to the back where, Kutcher later told police, he saw what looked like red wine stains on the carpet, then left.
Ellerin was found stabbed to death.
In 2005, just 40 miles away, another young woman, Maria Bruno, was killed in a similar manner -- a stabbing so vicious it shocked police.

'I thought it was red wine': Ashton Kutcher recalls horror of girlfriend's 2001 murder as trial of 'serial killer' looms
**Actor will come face-to-face with suspect during trial
**Violent deaths of two other women linked to case
**Arrest made after DNA evidence recovered from victim who survived attack

Actor Ashton Kutcher is due in court next year to testify in the trial of alleged serial killer Michael Gargiulo.
The 32-year-old actor has rarely spoken about the violent stabbing death of 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin in 2001 - but his testimony to police reveals shocking details of what he saw on the night of the murder.
Gargiulo, now 34, is facing trial for the murder of Ellerin and two other women - and the attempted murder of a fourth.
He was arrested in 2008 after DNA evidence was recovered from the Santa Monica apartment of Michelle Murphy, who survived an alleged knife attack in April of that year.

He thought she was angry at him for not making the earlier date and left.
Unbeknown to Kutcher at the time, Ellerin had been stabbed 35 times and was lying dead just beyond his view from the window. The red wine he had seen pooled on the floor was her blood.
Kutcher's testimony next year will be crucial for prosecutors to prove the time of death and strengthen their case.
Gargiulo knew Ellerin and friends of hers say that he had taken an intense interest in her in the time before her murder.
The court case will undoubtedly bring back some unpleasant memories for Kutcher, who went on to marry actress Demi Moore in 2005.

Michael Gargiulo, nicknamed the "Hollywood Ripper", has been found guilty of murdering two women.

Prosecutors in Los Angeles painted Gargiulo, 43, as a "stone-cold serial killer" who preyed on women in planned attacks.

He was also found guilty of attempting to kill a 26-year-old in 2008, who survived and testified against him.

Actor Ashton Kutcher also testified, having arranged a date with one of the victims on the night she was killed.

The trial will next decide if he was sane at the time of the attack before sentencing.

Gargiulo is also accused of another murder in the state of Illinois many years before - in 1993, when he allegedly attacked 18-year-old Tricia Pacaccio, the older sister of a friend.

He is likely to be extradited to Illinois to face a separate trial in that case, which unearthed new evidence in 2011.

Los Angeles jury recommends death penalty for the 'Hollywood Ripper'

(CNN)A jury has recommended the death penalty for Michael Gargiulo, known as the "Hollywood Ripper," the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Friday.

Gargiulo, 43, was found guilty in August of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder and attempted escape, according to a news release from the DA's office.

The jury, made up of six men and six women, deliberated for "several hours" before reaching the death sentence recommendation, the office said in a release.

LOS ANGELES — For crimes he called “vicious and frightening,” a judge on Friday gave a death sentence to a man prosecutors called “The Boy Next Door Killer” for the home-invasion murders of two women and the attempted murder of a third.

Victims’ family members wept as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry P. Fidler handed down the sentence to 45-year-old Michael Thomas Gargiulo.

The sentencing, delayed by procedural issues and the pandemic, came nearly two years after a jury convicted Gargiulo and recommended his execution.

He is unlikely to be put to death anytime soon. California has not executed anyone since 2006 and Gov. Gavin Newsom has halted executions for as long as he is in office. But courts have been proceeding on the assumption that executions may one day resume.

Gargiulo is now expected to be extradited to Illinois for the 1993 killing of Tricia Pacaccio in his Illinois hometown. Prosecutors in his California trial were allowed to present extensive evidence from that case as they sought to establish a pattern and present Gargiulo as a serial killer.
