Matthew Pysher, 18, Accused Of Flying Cross Country To Cut, Sexually Abuse 13YO Before Planned Joint Suicide

According to a criminal complaint obtained by People, 18-year-old Matthew Edward Pysher began talking to a 13-year-old girl on Discord in December 2025.

He allegedly asked the girl to "send him sexually explicit material and images of self-harm over the internet" and "specifically encouraged [the victim], via chat messages, to engage in acts of self-harm." Furthermore, he reportedly convinced her to set up "a Discord server where [she] could be filmed using blades to cut herself."

Authorities learned about the situation on February 10 when the victim's mother contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation because her daughter "was being encouraged to harm herself by an individual named 'Matthew,'" a person who she had met "on a Discord server related to individuals who were suffering from a mental illness," according to the complaint.

After investigating the victim's home on February 20, FBI agents were once again contacted by the girl's mother who said that the victim ran away and that her grandfather found a "suicide note," the complaint read.

Using surveillance video, authorities were able to track Pysher and the victim to a specific motel.

"Inside the room, law enforcement found Minor Victim One hiding in the bathroom as well as a bottle of lubricant on the nightstand, a knife, several razor blades, and bloody tissues," authorities wrote in the complaint. The victim claimed that Pysher "cut [her] several times with a knife on her left and right forearms for approximately 15 minutes" before he "had sexual intercourse with [her] even though [she] said she did not want to."

She reportedly told authorities that she and Pysher made a plan "for them to go to the top of a 'big' hotel and jump off together."

According to court documents, the case began earlier this month when the girl’s mother contacted the FBI. She told agents she was concerned her daughter had been communicating online with someone named “Matthew” who was encouraging her to harm herself.

Investigators say the two met on Discord, a social media platform, in a group centered on mental health topics. Authorities allege that over a period of several weeks, Pysher persuaded the girl — who had recently turned 13 — to send sexually explicit images and engage in acts of self-harm.

On February 20th, investigators say Pysher flew from Philadelphia to Los Angeles and met the girl near her home before taking her to a motel in Castaic.

When law enforcement located them inside the room, court documents say officers found condoms, lubricant, a knife, razor blades, bloody tissues, and a boarding pass showing travel from Pennsylvania to California. Investigators also recovered a Faraday bag, a device used to block electronic signals, near his cellphone.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl told authorities that sexual activity occurred and that she was cut with a knife.

Matthew Edward Pysher, 18, of Bangor, Pennsylvania, was arrested late Friday in Castaic and is expected to make his initial appearance this afternoon in United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles.

Pysher is charged in a federal criminal complaint with travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in federal prison.

Based on a review of the contents of the victim’s smartphone and Pysher’s online activities, law enforcement believes that Pysher is associated with NVE ideology.

The complaint details the nature of NVEs, including 764, a group whose members are known to the FBI to engage in criminal conduct within the United States and abroad in furtherance of political, social, or religious goals that derive primarily from a hatred of society at large and a desire to bring about its collapse by sowing indiscriminate chaos, destruction, and social instability.

NVEs often target vulnerable individuals, including minors, and frequently use social media platforms to share child sexual abuse material or gore material or to groom victims toward committing acts of violence. NVEs and their members frequently extort or blackmail victims into complying with NVE demands, which vary but may include self-mutilation; online and in-person sexual acts; harm to animals; sexual exploitation of siblings and others; acts of violence; and threats of violence, suicide, and murder.
