Ibe Lyles, 42, is accused of kicking a puppy to death while it was tied to a fence.

Elkton police Lyles for allegedly kicking and beating his 5-month-old pit bull while the dog was tethered to a fence "and unable to defend itself or run away from the attack," according to a statement.

Police responded to a call on Monday at about 8:35 a.m. for a report of animal cruelty.

The dog will be sent for a necropsy to determine an exact cause of death.

Lyles is charged with aggravated animal cruelty, animal cruelty, restraining a dog to have limited movement and restraining a dog to limit water or shelter.

An Elkton man will serve three years in prison for kicking a dog to death.

A judge sentenced Ibe Lyles to the maximum sentence with one month suspended.

In April, a neighbor filmed Lyles kicking and beating his 6-month-old pit bull puppy to death at his home on Mallard Court.

Lyles pleaded guilty, and as part of his sentence, he will have to serve an additional two years of supervised probation after his release.

He will also be banned from owning or living with an animal during that probationary period.
