Cops in Nevada say a man claiming to be a member of “the Cartel” kidnapped three boys who were at a park before he took them to his home, beat them up and forced them under a crawl space.
Guillermo Aboytes Saavedra, 23, faces a slew of charges including robbery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, false imprisonment and child abuse.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center began receiving calls from the victim saying he and two other boys had been kidnapped and were trapped in a crawl space. Deputies pinged the boy’s phone and began searching the area. Shortly before 7 p.m., deputies located the suspect’s home and rescued the boys from the crawl space.

Two of the boys suffered “substantial injuries” after Saavedra allegedly beat them with a wooded rake handle and scythe. The boys later told cops they were on the swings at a park when the suspect “came out of nowhere” with his fists balled up. He told the boys he “was a member of the Cartel.” Saavedra then allegedly slapped one of the boys in the face and said “he was not scared of jail and if he went to jail, he was going to kill them.”
“The juvenile stated that Saavedra then told them they were going to go for a walk and to act normal and not look at any cars,” cops wrote.
He forced them down an alleyway before making them hop a fence that led to his backyard, cops said. Saavedra allegedly made one of the juveniles record him as he beat the teens. They were “continually removed from the crawl space and beaten,” police said.

My daughter, with grown kids of her own, reminded me that I cautioned her about strangers by put my finger over my lip (moustache style) asking her if she'd like some candy - It's in my car.

Well hell, that's right by me! I'll see what else I can find.

ETA, this happened in Fernley, a small community east of Reno. He made one boy film while he beat the other two with the handle of a rake or shovel. Some serious injuries, but not life threatening.

and way back when, i told my kids that anyone they didn't meet at our house was a stranger except the police and they knew the uniforms for police... drs , minister etc that was ok if mom or dad was with them... it was really hard as my daughter never met a "stranger" she was so outgoing that every one she met was a friend...

Guillermo Aboytes-Saavedra was sentenced in Third Judicial District Court under a previously entered plea agreement tied to a May 6, 2025 case involving three juvenile victims in Fernley.
Deputies originally responded after receiving reports of threats made against a juvenile. Authorities say a rapid investigation, including tracking a juvenile’s cellphone, led them to a residence where they found Aboytes-Saavedra and discovered three male juveniles confined inside a crawl space. Two of the juveniles had suffered substantial injuries.

Deputies rescued the boys and arrested Aboytes-Saavedra at the scene.
Under the sentence handed down this week, Aboytes-Saavedra received three consecutive terms of five years to life in the Nevada Department of Corrections. Because the sentences will be served consecutively, he must serve a minimum of 15 years before becoming eligible for parole.
