A man Fort Myers police were searching for in relation to a death investigation is now facing homicide in the bludgeoning death of his roommate while the man slept.
Juan Agustin Ajqui-Chach, 33, was arrested Monday about 5 p.m. and is now charged with second-degree homicide. He will be held without bond and will next be in court July 22.
At his first appearance Tuesday morning before Judge Tara Paluck, a public defender representing Ajqui-Chach asked for bond and for the formal charges not to be read. He was denied on both requests.
In reading those charges, investigators accused Ajqui-Chach of beating his roommate to death with a 2-by-4 piece of wood while the man slept. He then took his 5-year-old daughter and tried to buy a one-way bus ticket to Mexico, the charges said.
Information provided to the court said that Ajqui-Chach, who police claim confessed to the crime, is not a legal immigrant to the U.S. and was not employed.
