The bodies of Renee MacRae and son Andrew have still not been found, in what is Britain's longest-running missing persons case.

A 77-year-old man was arrested in the north of England and is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court later today, Police Scotland said.

Ms MacRae had left Inverness to travel south to see her sister in Kilmarnock. Her burnt out BMW was found in a lay-by south of Inverness but there was no trace of her or Andrew.

In recent months, police have drained Leanach Quarry outside Inverness as they search for clues, retrieving a number of items.

But the bodies of Ms MacRae and her son have not been recovered.

If they were dropped in the quarry 40 years ago, you aren't finding anything...except regret. Lots of regret.
