A suspected maniac tried to abduct a 3-year-old girl off a Queens street on Tuesday and held a knife to a woman’s neck after running into her house while making his getaway, police sources said.
The suspect, identified by sources as 29-year-old Lester Augusto, approached the girl while she was riding a scooter on the sidewalk with her mother on Monday evening, the sources said.
Augusto then allegedly tried to snatch the girl out of the scooter, but ran off after the girl’s mother and Good Samaritans from the neighborhood fought him off, police sources said.
He then ran into a nearby house through an unlocked back door, where he ran into a 61-year-old woman in the kitchen and held a knife to her throat, the sources said.
He let the woman go without hurting her and bolted for the front door, according to the sources.
Neighbors directed police to the house, where they caught up with Augusto as he was trying to run out the front door, police sources said.
He was arrested and charges against him are pending.
The 3-year-old and the 61-year-old were not injured in the melee.
