Knowing my luck with dupe posts and searching, this is probably a dupe. That being said, who wants to place a bet that it’s the dick of the month? Why do they always leave the kids with them?

The list of charges tied to the death Sunday of 2-year-old Steven Dale Meek II now includes felony murder, Christiansburg’s police chief announced Friday.

McKenzie Kyle Hellman, 25, of Christiansburg, who already was charged with child abuse, now also faces a felony murder charge and an assortment of sexual abuse and pornography charges in a case that has two victims: Steven and another child who is not being named, Chief Mark Sisson said at a press conference at the town police department.

Also charged in the case is Steven’s mother, Hellman’s girlfriend Kayla Nicole Thomas, also 25. Thomas is accused of sexually abusing her own son and producing child pornography.

Sisson’s voice shook as he spoke in front of a projected picture of Steven standing in the snow, smiling and dressed in a camouflage jacket and hat. In the picture, the boy was held from behind by an adult.

Sisson outlined the events last weekend that brought police into contact with Steven and his family, saying it began with a 911 call that Hellman made from the home where he and Thomas lived.

Christiansburg Officer Aaron Lusk found Hellman sitting on the living room floor next to Steven. A second child also was present at the house, Sisson said. Hellman said that a child had fallen and was unresponsive, Sisson said.

At Roanoke Memorial, Steven had minimal brain activity. He was placed on life support. On Sunday at about 7:40 p.m., Steven died, Sisson said.

The boy had suffered “extreme blunt force trauma” to his head that was not consistent with Hellman’s story of a fall, Sisson said. Medical personnel and investigators soon determined that he had been physically abused, prompting the initial child abuse charge against Hellman, Sisson said.

The sexual abuse and pornography charges came after Christiansburg detectives seized an assortment of items, including numerous electronic devices, Sisson said.

Sisson said that Hellman has a child, and that police have been told that Thomas is pregnant. Thomas and Steven’s father shared custody of the boy, Sisson said.

A 25-year-old Christiansburg mother whose 2-year-old son died in January is now scheduled to be in court this fall.

Kayla Thomas is facing five felonies in connection with the case, including that she sexually abused her son, Steven Meek, and used him to create child pornography.

One of those reasons is that Thomas is pregnant and due in the next few weeks.

These are the five charges Thomas faces:

Committing forcible sodomy by engaging in fellatio against the victim's will by force, threat or intimidation

Inanimate object penetration of a person less than 13 years of age

Production of child pornography involving a child less than 15 years of age

Possession and distribution of child pornography

Being a parent or guardian, commit a willful act so gross and wanton as to show a reckless disregard for human life -- child neglect

Her live-in boyfriend, McKenzie Hellman, is charged in connection with the child's death. Investigators say he sexually assaulted and abused the toddler, 2-year-old Steven Meek, before killing him in January.

Last month, Hellman asked for sanity and competency evaluations.

McKenzie Kyle Hellman is mentally competent to stand trial for the beating death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, attorneys said Thursday during a short hearing in Montgomery County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Hellman, 25, is charged with felony murder and an array of sexual abuse and child pornography charges tied to the Jan. 13 death of Steven Dale Meek II. The felony murder charge indicates that prosecutors think a victim died during the commission of another felony.

Steven’s mother, Kayla Nicole Thomas, 26, also of Christiansburg, also faces sexual abuse and child pornography charges.

In May, attorney Fred Kellerman of Christiansburg, who is representing Hellman, requested an evaluation to look into what he said were “profound issues” with Hellman’s mental health. On Thursday, Kellerman and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Cristina Agee said that the evaluation had been completed and Hellman was found to be mentally competent.

Friday’s preliminary hearing revealed shocking new details about the alleged murder and abuse of a New River Valley toddler.

McKenzie Hellman, 26, is facing six felony counts in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, Steven Meek II.

Explicit text messages and photos of the alleged sexual and physical abuse were admitted into evidence, detailing what police say happened the day Steven was allegedly murdered.

What really stood out during the proceedings was what was found on Hellman’s phone afterward.

When police confiscated it, they said they found a photo of a sexual act being performed on Steven. Hellman later admitted to police that he asked Steven’s mother, Kayla Thomas, to send him the photo because he was “exploring the extent of his sexual needs.”

Officers also found messages from Hellman to Thomas asking her for sexual videos of her with Steven.

Investigator Nathan Delp of the Christiansburg Police Department recounted questioning Hellman about the picture found on his phone. It showed a young boy being sexually penetrated with an object that was held in a woman’s hand, Delp testified.

Hellman said that the boy in the picture was Steven and that the woman’s hand was Thomas’, Delp said. Hellman said that he was not actually in the room when the picture was taken but had asked Thomas to take it because Hellman wanted to explore his own sexuality, Delp said.

Delp said that Hellman explained that when the picture was taken, Thomas and Steven were in the mobile home’s master bedroom, while he was masturbating in a roommate’s bedroom at the other end of the residence. Hellman said that he wanted to see how a picture of a child’s abuse would affect him and used Facebook Messenger to send a message to Thomas asking her to engage in sexual activity with her son, Delp said.

The electronic message was sent using a feature that was to cause it to disappear after a few moments. But Delp testified that on Thomas’ phone, he found a saved screen shot that appeared to be the message from Hellman.

In it, Hellman said he wanted 30-second videos of Thomas performing explicit acts with her son, and that in addition to other acts, he wanted her to take the object and “poke him with it,” Delp said, reading from the screen shot.

Hellman finished his message by saying that if Thomas did this to her son, “I should be able to touch you again,” but that if the couple did not include another participant in their sex life within a month, “there will be issues,” Delp testified.

Delp said that he asked Hellman why he picked Steven for the abuse. “Because he was the one that was there that day,” Delp said Hellman answered.

I have to stop looking for updates on this case.

It makes me so angry that this man tried to say he was mentally impaired and that a mother would be so desperate that she would let a completely vile and unappealing piece of shit enable her to do the most horrific acts to her child.

I can tell that no matter the sentence I will not be happy with the outcome.

Why the hell is mom not being charged with murder?

If not for her the boy would still be alive.

By the time she gets to testifying against her boyfriend she will believe she was the actual victim.

Mom was not in the home at the time. She was at work. That’s why she wasn’t charged with murder. It was only after they seized their phones they found the pornography. There was a news article posted locally around here with lots of details. I’ll see if I can find it.

A long-delayed jury trial for a Christiansburg man accused of sexually abusing and making child pornography of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son is scheduled to begin Monday.
\
Actually, the two-day trial is only the first of what could be two trials for McKenzie Kyle Hellman. The 27-year-old also faces charges of second-degree murder, involving the same boy, and child abuse. These counts have been separated from the sex charges and are to be considered at a separate, future proceeding. A date has not yet been scheduled for the murder and child abuse charges to be heard.

When Hellman’s case begins Monday in Montgomery County Circuit Court, it will be the first jury trial in the New River Valley since the coronavirus pandemic began last year. Jury trials were halted by orders of the Virginia Supreme Court, which decided that the crowding of jurors and others posed too much of a chance of spreading COVID-19. Each court system in the commonwealth had to come up with a plan to impose greater distancing and other protective measures during jury selection and trials.

Montgomery County’s plan was approved in January but jury trials scheduled ahead of Hellman’s were canceled when the cases resolved through pleas or other means.

CHRISTIANSBURG — A Montgomery County jury took about half an hour Monday [15 March 2021, the date scheduled for the start of the trial] to find McKenzie Kyle Hellman guilty of all five charges he faced for the sexual abuse of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.

The jury a short time later recommended two life sentences plus 45 years for Hellman. Judge Robert Turk scheduled a sentencing hearing for June 29. It will be up to Turk to decide whether to accept the jury's recommendation or to impose a different sentence.

Monday's trial involved the sexual abuse of Steven Dale Meek II, son of Hellman's girlfriend, Kayla Thomas.

Hellman, 27, still faces charges of second degree murder and child abuse for Steven's death in Jan. 2019. A date for the court to hear those charges had not been set as of Monday.

i sure hope the judge goes with their recommendation to be served one after the other and then at his murder trial it is the same sentence and added to his 2 lifetime + 45 years so that the sucker off himself or dies in jail while suffering every single day and dies of old age

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Kayla Thomas, a Christiansburg woman who was facing multiple charges on crimes involving making child pornography and assaulting her young son, has been found guilty on all charges she was facing.

Those charges included forcible sodomy, reproducing child pornography, producing child pornography, and inanimate object sexual penetration.
[....]
In court, Thomas said she was forced to take videos of her sexually abusing her son to send to her boyfriend, McKenzie Hellman.

She said that Hellman’s drug use turned him into a monster and that she was afraid for her life.

Hellman was found guilty of similar charges in March and faces two life sentences plus 45 years. He faces a separate trial for the murder of Meek.

Thomas will be back in court on Sept. 23.

The man charged in the death of a two-year-old boy in Christiansburg entered a guilty plea on Monday morning.

In court, McKenzie Hellman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse charges. He is currently serving life sentences for sex crime charges.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney said McKenzie Hellman’s story changed several times and that none of his stories aligned with the child’s injuries.

Initially, officials said Hellman claimed he was in a different room when the victim was playing with another toddler in the bedroom. He told authorities that the two were jumping on the toddler’s bed when the victim fell and hurt himself.

His story later changed, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney. Hellman later said that the two toddlers were fighting when the victim may have bumped into the dresser.

However, the other toddler told authorities that Hellman abused the victim and once at the hospital, authorities said it was clear the boy was abused.

The baby boy had more than two dozen blunt injuries to his body, bleeding around his brain and broken bones in his skull.

Hellman was convicted earlier this year for his role in sex crimes performed on the child.

While he already serves life sentences for those crimes, he now faces up to 45 additional years when he is sentenced next month.

Kayla Thomas, the victim’s mother, is currently serving a life sentence for charges related to sex crimes. She was not charged in connection with his death.

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – A Christiansburg man received two life sentences plus an additional 90 years in connection to the death and sexual abuse of his girlfriend’s two-year-old son.
McKenzie Hellman appeared in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Tuesday morning for his sentencing. Last month, Hellman entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder and child abuse charges.
Below is a breakdown of Hellman’s sentence:
5 years for possession of child porn
10 years for distribution of child porn
30 years for production of child porn
5 years for neglect/child abuse
40 years for second-degree murder
Life sentence for sodomy (mandatory life sentence)
Life sentence for object penetration (mandatory life sentence)
During his court appearance in July, the Commonwealth’s Attorney said Hellman’s story changed several times and that none of his stories aligned with the child’s injuries.
Initially, officials said Hellman claimed he was in a different room when the victim was playing with another toddler in the bedroom. He told authorities that the two were jumping on the toddler’s bed when the victim fell and hurt himself.

The baby boy had more than two dozen blunt injuries to his body, bleeding around his brain and broken bones in his skull.
Hellman was convicted earlier this year for his role in sex crimes performed on the child.
Kayla Thomas, the victim’s mother, is currently serving a life sentence for charges related to sex crimes. She was not charged in connection with his death.

A state judge in Virginia on Thursday ordered the mother of a murdered infant to serve two life sentences for repeatedly committing atrocious acts of sexual abuse against her son—and taping it—at the behest of her boyfriend, who later killed the child.

Kayla Nicole Thomas, whose son Steven Meek II was only two years old when he was murdered in 2019, was ordered to serve one life sentence each for the charges of forcible penetration with an inanimate object and sodomy, and five years each for the counts of producing child pornography and reproducing child pornography.
Judge Mike Fleenor reportedly emphasized that the evidence against Thomas had been overwhelming and clearly established that she committed horrific crimes against her son that the judge described as “depraved” and “unfathomable.”
Given a chance to address the court, a reportedly crying Thomas apologized for her conduct.

“I am deeply, deeply remorseful for what happened,” she said. “I’d give anything to have my baby boy back. I’d do anything to get a second chance, and to do right by my son like I should have done in the first place.”
Per the Roanoke Times, during her trial, Thomas argued that she was forced to commit the acts of sexual abuse against her son by her boyfriend, 27-year-old McKenzie Kyle Hellman, saying that she feared for her life if she disobeyed him.

Thomas in 2019 admitted to investigators that she not only performed the acts of sexual abuse on her son, but recorded the acts to show Hellman. Despite claiming to be fearful of him, prosecutors at trial emphasized that Thomas continued to stay in contact with Hellman—even writing him love letters—just weeks before her trial commenced.
