LANCASTER, SC – A man in South Carolina has been accused of dangling a 5-year-old boy over an aggressive, chained, pit bull after he got angry with the boy for getting dirt on his vehicle. Police say that 22-year-old Michael Chavis Junior became angry with some neighborhood children who supposedly cursed at him and got dirt on the vehicle he had parked near the victim’s grandparent’s house. In response, Chavis grabbed a 5-year-old boy and held him over a chained pit bull. The pit bull belonged to the boy’s grandparents and he’d often played with the dog, but in this particular case the dog became aggressive, biting at the boy nipping his sweater. The dog is normally calm, but Capt. Scott Grant said the Chavis’ actions got the dog riled up. “The stimulus given to that animal would even cause a more calm type dog to react,” said Capt. Scott Grant. When police arrested Chavis on assault charges, they found he had*another assault and battery charge already pending. he seems quit the guy, having*been arrested 23 times for crimes including traffic violations, disorderly conduct, threatening the life of a public official, instigating a riot, resisting arrest, drug charges, discharging a firearm in the city, assault and battery with intent to kill and multiple assault and battery charges.
