37-year-old Jeremiah Yazziee-Miller and 34-year-old Jolynn Spahe were charged with child abuse after police say the couple smoked meth and then Yazziee-Miller shook Spahe's 11-month-old baby girl, hitting her head twice on a bed's headboard.
Police responded to a report of an 11-month-old female who was not breathing.
The infant was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center then flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.
She is currently in the ICU and had injuries including multiple skull fractures.
Yazziee-Miller was allegedly providing child care for his girlfriend's six children while she was grocery shopping.
He messaged the mother through social media and stated something was wrong with the infant.
Yazziee-Miller then called 911 and told dispatch the infant was not breathing.
Five other juveniles have been removed from the residence.
