Police are searching for a man Sunday night after an 8-year-old girl was shot and killed in Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called around 5:30 p.m. to the Indianapolis Fire Department on the report of a person who was shot and arrived there, IMPD Sgt. Jim Gillespie said in an email. The girl later died.

Police at the scene tell RTV6 the girl was taken to the fire station by a guardian.

At this time, police are still working to determine where the girl was shot.

Police are searching for the father of an 8-year-old girl who died on Sunday.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is asking for the public to help find 40-year-old Kendall Brye. Police say he’s a person of interest after his daughter, 8-year-old Kendrielle Brye, was shot. They aren’t sure if the shooting was accidental or intentional—that’s why they want to speak with him.

Court records say Brye, who had been on home detention for a drug conviction in 2017, cut off his GPS monitor and took off to avoid talking to police.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide detectives announced the arrest of Tiffany White- mother of the 8-year-old shot and killed - on Friday.

White was arrested and charged by IMPD detectives on Friday for neglect of a dependent causing death, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance. White has been transported to the main jail, according to IMPD.

IMPD obtained a search warrant to the residence of the impacted family and recovered potential evidence, according to an IMPD release.

During the investigation, detectives uncovered evidence that shows Kendrielle did not shoot herself.

Police have apprehended the father of an 8-year-old girl who died in a March shooting.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police had asked the public for help in locating Kendall Brye, calling him a “person of interest” following the fatal shooting of his 8-year-old daughter, Kendrielle Brye.

The IMPD Violent Crimes Unit and U.S. Marshals apprehended Brye Monday afternoon on the west side. He was taken into custody without incident. Police had been looking for him for more than a month
