An elderly woman is in critical condition after a man broke into her home and attacked her, according to the Orlando Police Department.

OPD officers were called to a home on Caribbean Court for a home invasion around 1:45 p.m. Friday

Police said the victim, Lucy Pat Curl, was found by her husband, William Curl, severely battered. She made her way back inside the home after pressing on the horn for help inside their vehicle in the home's garage.

The victim's husband called 911 and said an unknown Black man had forcibly entered their house and attacked his wife.
Orlando police detectives identified the suspect as Ronald D. Davis, 55, of Orlando. He was found sleeping inside a shed on a residential property a few miles away from the victim's home.

According to the arrest affidavit, Davis claimed to be a "community service officer" when he knocked on the elderly woman's door and told her he needed to check the home.
When Lucy Curl said she needed to see his ID, he allegedly flashed his driver's license, then forced his way in and attacked her.

According to police, Davis had been released from prison in June 2024 after serving a 15-year sentence for burglary of a dwelling with assault and battery, as well as robbery.
Lucy Curl was transported to a hospital, where she is in critical condition.

Hoskinson said the victim and her husband serve with a local church and love giving back to their community.

"They are like beacons of this neighborhood, and I never thought that this would happen. It just breaks my heart," Hoskinson said.

On Sunday, the senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Orlando mentioned Lucy and William Curl in his sermon. He mentioned that they have both been on staff at the church for many years: "We are praying today that God will give her a miracle," Uth said.
Davis is now facing charges of home invasion robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery with a weapon and aggravated battery on a person over 65 with great bodily harm, according to police.

"On Tuesday, Lucy Pat was taken off life support. She went on to Heaven early this morning. We rejoice that she is no longer in pain.

The circumstances of her passing are shocking and abrupt, and not what we would have expected or chosen. But as our Lord has forgiven us, we are asked to forgive each other.

At one point, Bill (her husband) took her picture before the results of the attack had been cleaned up. When asked what he would do with a picture like that, his response was, “I’m going to show it to the man who did this to her. Then I’m going to forgive him. I refuse to let his actions dictate who I am.” So we would ask for you to do the same.
