A Perth lollipop man accused of filming himself sexually abusing children he knew, including a baby, admits recording them but denies the conduct was obscene.

Michael Cyril Hyde, 60, is on trial charged with three counts of persistently engaging in sexual conduct with two sisters between October 2011 and April 2013, and an unrelated infant between April 2013 and April 2016.

The primary school traffic warden is also charged with five counts of producing child exploitation material involving those three children and two others.

The five children came from two families and ranged in age from one to 12, the West Australian District Court heard on Tuesday.

Hyde befriended the mother of the baby and her sister while working as a traffic warden and began babysitting the children, prosecutor David Jubb said.

The other family, including two sisters and their brother, were not connected to the school.

The children will not testify during the trial so the case hinges on the video footage, which Mr Jubb said would speak for itself.

Mr Jubb said Hyde made obscene comments in the videos including asking one girl 'how much she would cost and how long he could have her for'.

Hyde admitted making the recordings but his lawyer Max Crispe said his client denied the conduct was sexual.
