St. Charles authorities say Michael L. Johnson, 22, was charged with recklessly risking infection of another when infected with HIV.
In May, 2013, the victim contacted the St. Charles Police Department after he believed he had been infected with HIV by Johnson who he met through social media.
Johnson, a member of the Lindenwood University wrestling team was told he was positive for the HIV virus in January 2013 and knew of the infection before engaging in sexual activity with the victim but did not disclose it to him.
St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar said Johnson and the victim had sex at least twice in the wrestler's Lindenwood dorm room earlier this year. At that time, the victim contracted the HIV virus

Police detective Todd Wilson said the County Health Department indicates it is extremely rare for anyone to contract HIV through a wrestling match, but nevertheless the team members are being urged to talk to their family doctors about whether to get tested.

Howeverthey were unable to inform the suspect`s teammates prior to the public criminal charges because of federal privacy laws. ‘It`s unfortunate, but that is the law,’ said Lohmar.
