A 31-year-old Wyoming woman is in custody after she allegedly threw her 2-month-old daughter into a ditch, causing the girl severe injuries.

Cheyenne police said Lillian Jeffrey was arrested early Saturday morning for alleged child abuse and child endangerment after officers responded to a call about suspicious activity at a Love's Travel Stop service station.

Police said Jeffrey was in the driver's seat of a vehicle, acting erratically. The windows were down with two car seats in the vehicle but only one child present.

The girl was found injured in a ditch and airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities say it's uncertain how long the infant had been outside on a night when temperatures were in the low 40s.

And lets hope the poor kid never has to see that sorry excuse for a mother again, and nor does the other sib.

Be something amazing, young ones.

I don't get it...how anyone can do this to a child.

It's hard to comprehend, if we're talking about people of normal brain function. She sounds like a drug user (erratic behavior - car windows down on a frigid night, child abuse). Possibly the infant's cries was too much for her drug-addled brain to handle so she threw her out of the car.

Another observation: She was at a truck stop at night and, dollars to donuts, I'd say she's a prostitute too. Well, maybe *she* doesn't see it that way but what else do you call a person who exchanges sexual favors for drugs or drug money? Sadly, people like this are also called "mom" by too many abused children.

Probably left the poor kids strapped in the car while she worked her off ass off for drug money, too.

31-year-old Cheyenne mom has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to an aggravated child abuse charge alleging she threw her baby into a ditch.

Lillian Jeffrey entered the plea during her arraignment in Laramie County District Court.

Jeffrey was arrested on Dec. 9 after Cheyenne police found her 2-month-old daughter (K.J.) lying in a rock-covered ditch at Love's Travel Stop.

Jeffrey reportedly told police that "all of her children are possessed by spirits" and that "K.J. was a demon and that she cleansed her."

K.J. suffered multiple skull fractures and a collapsed lung and had to be life-flighted to Children's Hospital Colorado for treatment.

Jeffrey's trial has been set for May 21.

A 31-year-old Cheyenne mom accused of throwing her baby into a ditch has been slapped with two new felony charges.

Lillian Jeffrey made her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on two charges of interference with a peace officer-injury.

Charging documents allege Jeffrey punched a deputy in the face and bit a corporal's pinky finger while being booked into the Laramie County jail on Monday.

Judge Thomas Lee set Jeffrey's bond at $5,000 cash and set her preliminary hearing for June 14 at 10:30 a.m. If convicted of the charges, she could face up to 20 years in prison.

She is not in prison and has contact with her children.

A woman who pleaded guilty to throwing her two-month-old daughter in a ditch was sentenced to seven to ten years in prison, suspended for five years probation.

On Dec. 9, 2017, Lillian Jeffery is accused of throwing her baby in a ditch to “cleanse her.” Officers found the child lying on rocks in her shirt and diaper in December. There was a windchill of about 30 degrees Fahrenheit that night, according to court documents.

Medical professionals said the child had several abrasions, a skull fracture, a collapsed lung and internal bleeding, according to court documents. Jeffrey told officers that “K.J. (the child’s initials) was a demon and that she cleansed her.”

Jeffrey also admitted to officers that she had been using methamphetamine, according to court documents.

Sharpe said people may never know what motivated this crime, but he suspects it was done due to an altered mind – whether it was from postpartum depression or drug use is unknown.

At her sentencing, Jeffrey, and her attorneys, said she was diagnosed as schizoaffective – which is a mix of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression and other symptoms – and she is now being medicated for those mental illnesses. She has also been successfully living at a sober living facility.

I wish they reported on whether she still was allowed contact with the children.

Hopefully she did right by those children and has allowed them permanency and stability.

I agree. If she got a moment of clarity and did the right thing, I’d wish her a peaceful life without ever subjecting any child to her illness again. Ever.

It must be awful to realize one morning that you hurt your child if you never intended to.
