A husband and wife have been arrested in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl whose remains were found in a container in an apartment on Thursday in west central Laredo, according to authorities.

Gerardo Zavala Loredo, 32, and Monica Dominguez, 37, were each charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. Dominguez was also charged with endangering a child.

Law enforcement said Dominguez told police that her daughter, Rebecka Zavala, had drowned in a bathtub. She said she then recruited her husband to help dispose of the body, Webb County District Attorney Isidro "Chilo" Alaniz said.

Alaniz said that during the search, they found the girl's remains in a five-gallon container in a bedroom closet. There appeared to be acid in the container as well, he said.

Alaniz added that an examination of the girl's body will determine whether there were any "injuries consistent with a murder."

CPS has taken custody of four children, ages 1 to 11, who lived at the apartment.

Did this make anyone else think of Breaking Bad?

Dissolving a baby in acid. . . That must've been a heck of a brainstorming session leading up to that decision. Sounds like meth to me.

A South Texas woman granted probation for injuries to her infant son has been sentenced to prison after violating probation when the remains of her 2-year-old daughter were found in a bucket of acid.

Monica Yvonne Dominguez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for violating probation after she was charged with evidence tampering and child abandonment involving her daughter's corpse.

he had been sentenced to 10 years' probation after pleading guilty in 2016 to injury to a child for injuries to her 9-month-old son. State District Jude Oscar Hale Jr. on Friday deemed the new charges violated that probation and handed down the prison sentence. Conviction on the new charges could mean up to two years in state prison on each count.

This sociopathic bitch only got 10 years for tampering with the body. How is this not a circumstantial murder case?? She was already on probation for fracturing her infant's limbs in multiple places for God's sake! Isn't it obvious that her angel faced baby girl didn't drown? Not only because of her mother's history, but also the fact she opted to try and dissolve baby girl's remains instead of calling 911?? This case makes my blood boil! God blessed me with two precious baby boys, but I always wanted a beautiful little girl. It enrages me that this ungrateful psychotic bitch got one instead only to destroy her.

Re-read the article Sugar Cookie posted Josie. She violated her probation stemming from a previous conviction. No need for a bail hearing or her attorney fighting for pre-trial release. Straight violation - Go directly to jail... Do not pass go... Do not collect $200.

And cripes she's an ugly one isn't she? Hard to imagine she pushed out such a beautiful little girl. I imagine Gerardo having to guzzle a gallon of tequila just to crawl in bed with that thing.

Dominguez additionally pleaded guilty to endangering a child and abuse of a corpse. She will serve a total of 20 years in prison.

Her judgment will run consecutively with a 10-year revocation sentence for violating her probation in a prior child injury case in which her 9-month-old son suffered six bone fractures, according to the paper.

The father of the child, Gerardo Zavala-Loredo, 33, is taking a plea deal of 14 years for tampering with evidence of a human corpse, a second degree felony, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Dominguez and Zavala-Loredo were arrested in February in connection with the death of a 2-year-old-girl. The girl’s remains were found in a container in an apartment in west central Laredo, according to authorities.

If she actually had done prison time that little girl would probably still be live.

They killed her and basicaaly got away with it.

A couple have been jailed after callously disposing of their two-year-old daughter's body in a bucket of acid.
Monica Dominguez and Gerardo Zavala Loredo, 32, from Texas, were arrested after the horrific discovery of the remains of Rebecka Zavala in February.
Mystery surrounds how the tot died but Dominguez said to police she had drowned while being left unsupervised in a bath, 7newsreports.
She told police Loredo helped her dispose of the baby's body.
Records show Dominguez had previously been arrested 17 times with 28 different charges - including five involving injury to a child.

The last arrest happened in February last year and she spent nine days in jail.

Authorities were unable to charge either parents with murder because the state of Rebecka's remains made it impossible to determine how she died.
Instead, Domingues admitted tampering with evidence, endangering a child, and abuse of a corpse.
She was jailed for 20 years with a 10-year sentence for her previous conviction of child negligence.

Loredo was convicted of tampering with a human corpse and sentenced to 14 years.
Jorge Dominguez said his auntie would lose her temper with her children but he never thought she would get to ''that point".
The death of Rebecka has promoted calls for new laws to strengthen the protection for children from abusive parents in Texas.
Michele Nigliazzo, a family attorney, wants to create a petition that seeks to ask state legislators to take action in order to prevent what happened to little Rebecka from ever happening again.

She said: "Currently in Texas, there is no system in place to protect children who are given to someone by the court and then replaced by that person to a potential dangerous parent."
Nigliazzo added the new law should be named after Rebecka so that her memory is not forgotten.
