A report from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office details a witness calling police after he said he could hear outbursts of yelling and a vehicle accelerating at high speeds.
The witness stated when he walked outside to see what was happening, he saw a young child running, trying to avoid his father, Joseph Riley. The child ran to the witness' house for help, and said he was afraid his dad was going to run him over with his truck.
According to the report, the child stated his father had asked him to take a bath numerous times and when he didn't comply, Riley threatened to spank him with a belt. The child left the home, and Riley followed in his truck, said deputies.
When Riley was interviewed by investigators, he appeared intoxicated and had a hard time standing by himself. He also wouldn't cooperate with officers and lunged at them.
Riley was arrested and charged with domestic violence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
