Johnny Edwards
EASLEY, S.C. --
Johnny James Edwards, Jr. faces charged for burglary, unlawful conduct towards a child, and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Deputies say the situation started Tuesday night at a home on Ridgefield Circle in Easley. Jacqlyn Smith called deputies and told them her child's father, Edwards, was trying to break into her home.

Investigators say by the time deputies got there, Edwards entered the home, hit Smith in the head, and took their young son, 2-year-old Grant Edwards.

Deputies tried to block Edwards in, to keep him from leaving, but they say Edwards held the boy out of the car window, to get deputies to back away. When they did, Edwards took off.

Dispatchers talked Edwards into surrendering, but they say Edwards ran again, and this time, ended up in Greenville County.

Department of Natural Resource Officers showed up at the Greenville location, but they say Edwards became frustrated and took off one more time.

Pickens County deputies were able to reach Edwards, and finally talked him into giving up in the Dacusville area.

Both mom and the child were taken to the hospital, but should be ok.

Police: Mom Found Bleeding, Infant Taken
A Pickens County man is facing multiple charges after snatching a baby and leading police on a pursuit, according to a sheriff's office release.

Pickens County deputies were called to a home on Ridgefield Circle in Easley about a trespassing incident. Deputies said when they arrived at the home, they found a woman who was bleeding from wounds to her head who was standing in the driveway screaming that her husband, Johnny Edwards Jr., had taken her baby.

According to the release, a deputy found Edwards walking down a road carrying the infant. The deputy said that Edwards ignored his commands and got into an SUV. The deputy said he tried to block in the SUV with his patrol car, but Edwards drove around him.

As another deputy tried to block in Edwards' vehicle, he said he saw Edwards hang the infant out the open door of the SUV, apparently in an attempt to make the deputies backoff, according to the release.

Deputies followed Edwards, who they said was not speeding. A deputy was able to reach Edwards'by phone and after a few minutes, Edwards turned the infant over to the deputy before fleeing, according to the release.

The release said that later in the evening, Edwards called the Sheriff's Office and asked to meet the deputy who had taken the infant from him at a gas station in Marietta. When the deputy got to the location, he said Edwards again drove around the patrol car and fled.
.
Two Department of Natural Resource officers, who were assisting the Sheriff's Office, pursued Edwards, who they said tried to strike a DNR officer's car several times.

Edwards called the Sheriff's Office again, saying that he wanted to surrender, but he continued to flee the DNR officers, according to the release.

What's the point in running? I'm sure the cops aren't just going to give up.
Right?

Exactly, TC. Most of these pursuits are just completely pointless and clearly the output of minds that cannot predict even basic outcomes.

Once, when seeing a chase, I heard my father say, "he better hope that his car is faster than radio waves."
