ST. LOUIS -- A 26-year-old St. Louis County man was charged today with murdering his girlfriend, whose body was found Saturday near a creek in north St. Louis County, police said.

Jessie R. Meanus, of the 10100 block of Bon Oak Drive, was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He is being held without bond at the St. Louis County Justice Center in Clayton.

Meanus is accused of killing Latonya Fiertag and leaving her body near a creek at Bella Claire and Bon Oak drives. Fiertag was last seen arguing with Meanus in the driveway of their home at 10144 Bon Oak Drive the evening of April 9, police said.

Police said that Fiertag was hit over the head with a baseball bat and choked to death.

Witnesses told police that they saw Meanus struggle to put Fiertag into a large, trash or recycling bin, then close the lid and wheel the can down the street, police said. He took the can down toward where her body was found on Saturday, police said.
