On Friday, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and EMS, as well as the Department of Social Services responded to a home on Dutch Fork Drive related to a report of possible child abuse.
A police report says visible injuries were on Jenifer Romero-Pesos’ son’s arms, hands, legs, and head.
He also has a lacerated liver and broken ribs.
Very severe burns were on his hands, back and leg. They say he suffered severe burns that should have been treated at the hospital.
He was taken into emergency protective custody and sent to MUSC. He is now in foster care.
The boy’s mother, Romero-Pesos is in custody at the county jail where she has an ICE hold on her. Immigration officials want to talk to her about another issue.
Officials say Romero-Pesos will only give them the first name of a woman she says is responsible for her son’s injuries.
“Right now, the mother would have us believe a babysitter of the child was responsible for the injuries and has since left the country and is back down in Mexico,” said Captain Michael Crumley with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
