A Gainesville teen was arrested Wednesday after police say he neglected two children, letting one girl mistakenly make baby formula for her sister with liquor instead of water.
The girl who drank it was hospitalized with a blood alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit for adult drivers, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.
Joshua Golofredo Rosado, 18, talked to the girls’ mother on his cellphone and played games on his computer while the girl drank the baby formula, the report says.
GPD did not disclose the injured child’s age or Rosado’s relationship to the children.
The girl who drank the alcohol went to sleep and was later taken to a hospital after she developed a rash. Doctors discovered she had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .234, according to police. The Child Protection Team said a BAC of .300 to .500 could cause neurological problems or death.
According to police, the bottle of formula was mixed by the sister, who age was not disclosed. The alcohol, police said, was in clear reach of the child who made up the bottle. She told investigators she is often left to take care of the other girl while Rosado goes to the store.
Rosado, who would often watch the kids while their mother worked, told police it was a mistake to leave the alcohol within reach of the children.
Police arrested him on two counts of child neglect.
