An Iowa man has been arrested on a felony charge after police say he physically abused his 89-year-old father, leaving him with broken bones.
Sheriff's deputies went to a rural Ankeny home Monday to investigate a report of abuse. Douglas Alan Maier, 60, was accused by his father of intentionally kicking his right leg because he was "in the way," causing him to fall and hurt his ribs, court documents say.
Police observed bruising on the left part of the father's torso.
The father told deputies that his son regularly denies him his walker, forcing him to crawl on his hands and knees, and then steps on his fingers out of humor.
He also said Douglas Maier refuses to feed him anything but two cans of cold corn a day, and has been cashing his Social Security checks for 25 years.
