"Janet Perez's two children, ages ten and six, were unsecured in her vehicle when she crashed into a home located in the 5500 block of Birchgate Drive in Spring on Oct. 5, according to a release from Harris County Constable Precinct 4. Perez was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated with child passengers.
Perez attempted to flee the scene after the wreck, police said. She was detained and through standardized field sobriety tests, it was determined she was intoxicated.
Drivers that are charged with DWI with a child passenger can face fines up to $10,000, up to two years in prison and loss of their drivers license for 180 days, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT.) In Texas, a person is charged with DWI if their blood or breath alcohol concentration (BAC) is .08 or higher, according to TxDOT."
