WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A 51-year-old man who claimed to practice Voodoo has admitted telling underage girls that if they refused to have sex with him terrible things would happen to them and their families.

Hector Aviles of Yonkers pleaded guilty Thursday to second- and third-degree rape, said Janet DiFiore, the Westchester district attorney. Aviles could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

DiFiore said that at various times in 2006, Aviles told three girls, ages 16 and 14, that he could help them with such problems as boys and parents if they engaged in a sexual "ritual" with him. He warned that if they backed out, he would make bad things happen to them and their relatives.

The district attorney said that when he was arrested, Aviles told police he practiced Voodoo.

WHITE PLAINS - A convicted sex offender admitted yesterday that he sexually assaulted three Yonkers girls in 2006 after telling them he practiced voodoo and could help solve their problems.

Hector Aviles, 51, of Yonkers pleaded guilty to one felony count of second-degree rape for attacking a 14-year-old girl and two of third-degree rape for assaulting two 16-year-old girls, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office.

The three rapes happened between Oct. 1 and Nov. 8, 2006, the prosecutor's office said. Each time, he told the girls he practiced voodoo and could read tarot cards. He told them he could help them get boys and have a better relationship with their parents.

He told the girls they needed to perform a ritual with him to get their wishes and could not back out or change their mind or else something terrible would happen, prosecutors said.

He then raped the girls.

Yonkers police didn't catch up to Aviles for a year. When questioned about the allegations, he denied any involvement with the girls but admitted to practicing voodoo. He was arrested Oct. 18.

Aviles faces up to 15 years in state prison when he is sentenced on July 31 as a second child sexual assault felony offender.

He was convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl in 1997.

In that case, prosecutors said, Aviles told the girl that he would cast a hex on her family if she reported him.

After raping a 12-year-old girl in 1997, Hector Aviles avoided prison time, getting sentenced instead to five years’ probation.

Nine years later, living in Yonkers, he convinced three teenage girls that through Santeria he could help them find boyfriends and get along better with their parents.

On separate occasions that fall, he brought the girls, two who were 16, the other 14, to his home. He conducted tarot-card readings on them and then said they had to perform a ritual with him. If they backed out of the ritual, something awful would happen to their families, he told them.

Aviles then raped each girl.

When he was interviewed by police a year later, Aviles denied knowing the girls or that he practiced Santeria but that he did practice “voodoo”. He was arrested and later pleaded guilty to second- and third-degree rape and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

This article from 2017 said he was being held under a civil commitment.

This website called Blunt Force Truth did an article about him, which they were suggesting that his voting rights were restored by Governor Cuomo.

Interesting spin on it, but worth a read.
