Jennifer Cordova, 29, was arrested on a charge of child neglect. She is being held in the Polk County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Officers were sent to the house early Monday morning. A caller told dispatchers a young girl was home alone and that her mother was at a bar. The caller said she had seen the girl open the back door of the house several times and look around.

The house was dark when officers arrived and they could not see in the windows. No one answered the door when they knocked.

Officers found an unlocked door, opened it and announced themselves. The police report says the 5-year-old, Imelda Hernandez, came around a corner and ran to the officers.

"Imelda immediately wanted to be held and was unable to speak," police said.

She told officers she was afraid of monsters in the basement. She appeared to be terrified and traumatized.

Imelda pointed to Officer Leanna Lawrence and repeatedly said she wanted to go home with her.

While officers were still in the house, Cordova called. She returned to the house about 1:30 a.m. She said she'd been at a bar on Northeast Second Avenue and had three shots there.

Imelda is now with a great-grandparent.

Oh, my heart just aches for that scared little girl. She wanted to go home with a complete stranger because her mom is a complete jerk. Her mom was the monster!

I know. I burst into tears when I read that she wanted to go home with the female officer. I don't know how that officer was able to complete her shift without crying all night!

Thank God for good officers.

I pray this sweet little girl is now taken good care of and that her egg donor goes to hell and rots there.

If I happen upon this woman, she better take cover is all I can say.

Poor sweet child riddled with neglect and fear. Breaks my heart. I do hope she is in a loving home with no monsters to be found.

Again, nosy neighbors save the day! Poor kiddo. Fortuantely/Unfortunately, the great-grandparents are now burdened with raising that poor tyke. DV, Hambeast is a perfect way to describe the mother!

This hits really close to home for me. My ex wife had two children after our marriage with a total waste of genetic material. (BTW... he is currently in prison for the murder of a young college student.)

After she left him and moved back into my area, she had to leave one of her daughters with him, because he threatened to disappear with both girls otherwise. So, he had done what she felt was right. Turns out that he would leave the 5 year old girl at home alone at nights so he could go to raves. The only working bathroom in the house was in the basement, and she thought there were monsters down there. The result was she would wet the bed. He would come home and yell at her and punish her for it.

I gave my ex money to get a lawyer to file for custody the minute I found out about this. Shortly after this, the state was about to take her due to malnutrition. (She wouldn't eat because she had rationalized to herself that if she didn't eat or drink, she wouldn't have to go to the bathroom.)

Fortunately, there is a bit of happiness that came from it. My ex got custody of both girls and lived 2 miles from me and our son (who I had custody of), so he was able to see them regularly. My ex isn't the greatest mother, and she had shown A LOT of bad judgement, but at least she fought for her kids. I only have a son, but I have known these girls their whole lives.

I told you that history to tell you this...

Had I been a responding officer, they would have had to pry that poor little girl from my arms, and when they did they would have had to hold me back from beating that bitch to within an inch of her life. I swear, if I hear that she is ever allowed within 20 miles of this child, I think my head will literally explode.
