The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has taken a barricaded subject into custody following an incident.

At approximately midnight, deputies attempted to locate a suspect wanted in connection with a murder investigation of a child.

The victim has been identified as 4-year-old Niomi Rose.
Around 11:30 p.m., 911 was called by a woman named Linda Rose to a home in reference to an unresponsive child. Investigators say the child was left in the care of 28-year-old Collin Aaron Aber.

Once there, EMS located the child and saw that she had visible injuries. She was transported to WellStar MCG Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen tells us she died from blunt force trauma received from an adult.
Aber and Rose were seen leaving the scene in a blue Chevy Acadia. When deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, Rose got out of the car, but Aber continued to flee.
Aber reportedly led deputies on a pursuit that ended in the area of Division Street and Curry Street. He then barricaded himself inside his father’s home.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene.

After several hours of negotiations, the SWAT Team made entry into the residence, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Aber has been charged with Murder in connection to the death of Niomi Rose. Additional charges may be coming.

Aber is the boyfriend of the aunt who had custody of the child.

Authorities have made a second arrest in connection with the death of a 4-year-old girl last weekend.

Linda Rose, the aunt and caregiver of Niomi Rose, was arrested Friday on a charge of felony murder in the second degree. Witnesses said the arrest came after a memorial service for the girl.
An arrest warrant states that Linda Rose “did while in the commission of cruelty to children in the second degree, cause death of another ... irrespective of malice.”

The arrest warrant for Linda Rose states:

“The accused was aware of the abuse being perpetuated on said victim by another subject. The accused neglected to contact authorities and allowed the victim to remain in the hostile environment which resulted in her death.”
