The suspect in the grizzly attack at a Gretna apartment bludgeoned four children with a hammer as they slept before attacking and killing his girlfriend, according to the JPSO.

Thirty-three-year-old Terrance Leonard attacked the four children as they slept, killing two, before lying in wait for 32-year-old Kristina Riley, who he also fatally attacked when she arrived at the apartment.

Riley was pronounced dead on the scene after police were called to the apartment on March 6.

Leonard was detained on the scene and later identified as the perpetrator, according to the JPSO.

Officials report that Leonard admitted to being on crack cocaine at the time of the murders.

Ten-year-old Ayden Riley, Kristina Riley’s son, and nine-year-old De’ryona Encalade, the niece of Kristina Riley, were also pronounced dead on the scene.

Kristina Riley’s 12-year-old and 14-year-old daughters are currently hospitalized in critical condition.

Leonard has an extensive criminal history for narcotics possession and distribution, second degree battery, simple battery, and multiple offenses against law enforcement, according to the JPSO.

A 14-year-old girl has become the fourth victim to die following a brutal hammer attack in Louisiana.

Nashawana Riley, 14, succumbed to her injuries on Monday night, five days after the viscous assault on March 6, that also claimed the lives of her mother, younger brother, and her cousin.

The teenager was declared brain-dead on March 11 and died shortly afterwards, following her family's decision to switch her life-support system off.

Natasha's family members - mother, Kristina Riley, 32; brother, Ayden Riley, 10; and cousin, De'ryona Riley, 9, were all pronounced dead at the scene when their bodies were found bludgeoned inside the family home in Terrytown, near New Orleans.

A fifth victim, Natasha's 12-year-old sister Adrianna Riley, remains in the hospital in a critical condition.

A Louisiana man has been given four consecutive life sentences after he pleaded guilty to beating his girlfriend and three children to death with a hammer.

Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul D. Connick Jr. said 36-year-old Terrance Leonard pleaded guilty Thursday to four counts of first-degree murder, news outlets reported.

Police then found three people dead and two more injured. The deceased victims from the scene were later identified as 32-year-old Kristina Riley, her 10-year-old son (Ayden Riley) and her 9-year-old niece (De’ryona Encalade).

Riley’s two daughters, a 12-year-old and 14-year-old Nashawna were taken to the hospital for critical injuries. Nashawna later succumbed to her injuries, reclassifying the case as a quadruple homicide.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto described the attack as “pure evil.” It happened on March 6, 2019, in Terrytown inside their apartment.

It was revealed the children were attacked while they were sleeping, then attacked Riley when she arrived home. Officials confirmed Leonard later admitted to being on crack cocaine at the time of the attack.

Later that morning, Leonard’s mother found Riley and the children with head trauma and called the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said Leonard hid the hammer used in the murders in a nearby trash can, and he tried to clean up the blood before leaving the apartment. He later returned to the scene with his mother who called authorities, not knowing her son committed them, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said. The sheriff said he believed that Leonard returned to the scene to appear to have an alibi.

After the attack, Lopinto said Leonard told deputies that he was under the influence of drugs at the time. A neighbor told deputies she heard the couple arguing that night when Riley returned home, but the neighbor did not call police.

Leonard also pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and attempted first-degree murder of another of Riley’s daughters, who was 12 years old at the time of the attack.

people like this should IMMEDIATELY be taken to a firing squad outside when there is a 100% positive identification or confession. PERIOD
Not defending this guy obviously but just pointing out that nothing is 100% proof of guilt. False or coerced confessions happen on the regular even today. Not even DNA is infallible. Take our 90's DNA techniques. During the 90's it was considered 100% fool proof, we now classify that same method as junk science. Same with bite marks, blood spattering, scent dogs, lie detectors, hair analysis and eye witness accounts. Current video technology isnt even far enough to be 100% accurate. Heck even finger printing has undergone radical changes over the decades as we realized that we were doing it wrong and its one of the oldest and simplest 'foolproof' ways to point a literal finger at someone.

Pretty much any method you can think of that confirms guilt, will at one point in the future be proven to be junk science as we realize just how large the margins for errors really are. Innocent people have died because people 'proved' they were guilty with methods we later realized were flawed.
