A Fontanet man charged in connection with the February 2017 death of a disabled 9-year-old child was sentenced Friday to eight years in prison and four years on formal probation

Hubert Kraemer is one of four defendants arrested in connection with the starvation death of 9-year-old Cameron Hoopingarner.

Hubert Kraemer’s wife, 54-year-old Robin Kraemer, was found guilty at trial in September 2017 and was sentenced to 36½ years in prison. She was the child’s primary caregiver.

Also living in the Kraemer home at the time of the child's death were co-defendants Chad Kraemer and Sarah Travioli.

Chad Kraemer pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent and failure to report child abuse. He is serving his sentence in Branchville Correctional Facility with release set for February 2021.

Travioli pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent and is scheduled to be released from Rockville Correctional Facility in August 2019.

All four adults lived in the same house where Robin Kraemer had cared for the boy since he was 3 days old.

Hoopingarner died Feb. 21, 2017. An autopsy determined he died of severe malnutrition, weighing about 15 pounds.

Because of his medical conditions, his target weight was only 22 to 26 pounds.
