A flamingo at an Illinois zoo was euthanized after an elementary school student threw a rock into the wading bird’s exhibit this week — accidentally hitting it, according to local reports.

The incident occurred when the young visitor skipped a rock into the flamingo habitat at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington on Monday, striking the bird and breaking its leg, zoo director Jay Tetzloff told The Pantagraph.

“Unfortunately, staff determined the best course of action given the animal’s injuries was to euthanize the bird,” Tezloff said.

“This was a truly unfortunate accident, and we are working with the juvenile’s family to move forward,” the director added, noting that there’s no need at this time for the zoo to change the layout of the flamingo exhibit.

While WMBD-TV identified the rock-chucker as an elementary school student, no further details about the young offender were released.

Well, it was sort of an accident. He threw the rock on purpose, but I assume he did not intend to kill the bird. Still, if the violent little fucker had not thrown the rock into a zoo enclosure in the first place, the flamingo would still be alive.
