The parents of a 4-year-old who was shot and killed last week have been charged in the boy’s death.

The child was found dead inside a bedroom, according to a report from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner.

Ralph Taylor has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. Casandra Taylor was charged with neglecting a child with consequence of death and straw purchasing of a firearm, according to a criminal complaint filed Sunday, July 13.
According to the complaint, prosecutors say Ralph initially claimed to police that a bullet came through an open window and struck the child.

He also allegedly told police that there were no weapons in the home, which ended up allegedly being a lie, with investigators recovering a Glock Model 17 semi-automatic pistol wrapped in plastic bags in a storage container, according to the complaint.
Prosecutors say witnesses reported that Ralph and Casandra were arguing about the father’s lack of proper care for the child, where they say he allegedly broke her computer, and then grabbed the child by the arm and took him upstairs to a bedroom.

According to the complaint, after witnesses heard a gunshot, they found the bedroom door locked, with Casandra and another witness allegedly banging on the door for several minutes before Ralph opened it.
An autopsy revealed a "perfectly rectangular shape" of damage to RT's front upper gums and teeth consistent with the firearm being inserted inside the child’s mouth, according to the complaint.
Prosecutors say when confronted with the evidence, Ralph allegedly changed his story, claiming the child found the gun under the pillow and shot himself.

Witnesses told investigators that Ralph regularly threatened to "shoot everyone in the home."

A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Ralph Taylor on Thursday, April 23 to life in prison without the possibility of extended supervision, in the July 2025 fatal shooting of his 4-year-old son, Ralph Taylor III. Taylor, 35, was found guilty at trial on March 12, of first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Taylor was given the option to speak to the court before being handed his sentence.

"I do still proclaim my innocence. I didn't murder my boy. I didn't do that. But I am responsible for it because I put him in a situation that wasn't safe. That's something I'm gonna have to live with for the rest of my life," Taylor told the court.
Judge Borowski then spoke directly to Taylor for more than 20 minutes. He did not mince words.

"You may be the most monstrously evil human being that has ever sat in front of me. You are evidence that evil exists in the world. You are the face of it, pure evil," Judge Borowski said. "The need to protect the public for Mr. Taylor is immense. It's enormous. I think that if Mr. Taylor can murder his own child, why would he bat an eyelash at murdering somebody else in the street, killing another citizen, killing a neighbor if he got out, killing his wife, killing his stepson, why not?"
After handing down his sentence, the judge said,"Mr. Taylor needs to die in prison. Hopefully thinking about the carnage that he has wrought every single day."
Casandra Taylor, the 4-year-old's mother, was charged in this case with neglecting a child (consequence is death) and straw purchasing of a firearm. She is scheduled to be in court on June 22 for a plea/sentencing hearing.
