Police in Round Rock have accused a man of breaking the bones of his 3-month-old son.
According to an affidavit, 23-year-old Abel Juarez-Franco and the boy's mother took the baby to Dell Children's Hospital on January 28th because he had a fever and could not move his left leg.
While there, doctors found the boy had suffered two healing rib fractures, and fractures in his fibula and femur, above and below his left knee. As they were at different stages of healing, a doctor determined they sustained at different times, and could only be inflicted by violent pulling, twisting, or yanking.
The doctor also told police that Juarez-Franco and the mother weren't able to say how the injuries occurred. However during a later interview with police, the boy's mother said Juarez-Franco was "too strong" with the baby at times and told him not to grab him that way, according to an affidavit.
She also said Juarez-Franco "did not know how to be a father or how to carry a baby."
According to court documents, she said that she and Juarez-Franco had an argument, during which he may have picked up the baby “too hard.”
Juarez-Franco claimed he picked up the infant, threw him up in the air a couple of times and the baby “cried like he was in pain."
