Dover Mom Charged With Failing To Report Abuse That Put Toddler In Hospital

Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have arrested and charged a Stewart County man accused of causing serious injuries to his three-year-old stepson.

At the request of 23rd District Attorney General Ray Crouch, TBI Agents began investigating the boy’s assault and subsequent hospitalization, following an incident at the family’s Hidden Hollow Drive home in Dover. As a result of the investigation, Agents developed information leading to Stephen Mitchell Woolman, 27, as the individual responsible for the crime.

On Thursday night, Agents arrested Woolman, charged him with one count of Aggravated Child Abuse, and booked him into the Stewart County Jail, where, at the time of this release, he was being held without bond.

A Dover woman has been charged with child endangerment after being accused of failing to report the abuse of her 3-year-old son.

A Stewart County grand jury returned an indictment for 30-year-old Melissa Woolman, whose toddler was assaulted and hospitalized in February, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

As a result of the investigation, TBI agents arrested and charged the boy's stepfather, 26-year-old Stephen Woolman, with one count of aggravated child abuse, saying he caused the boy's serious injuries.

The boy was hospitalized Feb. 27 after an incident at their home in Dover.
