District Attorney Vern Pierson said DNA technology linked Joseph Holt to the murders of Brynn Ellen Rainey, 27, and 16-year-old Carol Anne Andersen.

Holt had no criminal history and lived in South Lake Tahoe until he died from a heart attack in 2014.

"Do we know these are the only crimes he committed? Based on the circumstances and what we've seen, it's very doubtful," Pierson said.

Rainey was a keno runner at a casino when she went missing. A month after the 27-year-old’s disappearance, her body was found in a shallow grave near Stateline Stables in South Lake Tahoe in August of 1977.

Andersen was about to start her junior year at George Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove. Investigators said the 16-year-old snuck out of her home to go to a party in South Lake Tahoe when she disappeared. Her battered body was found on the side of a road in July 1979.

Pierson said both women were sexually assaulted, and there is no indication Holt knew the victims.

Investigators found suspect DNA on both victims and were able to verify the same person committed the crimes years apart. But the sample never linked to any suspects in the DNA database.

Sooo is this another creepy as fuck case where a family member innocently sends in their DNA to one of those companies that gives you bullshit "information" about your lineage and then the company forks over your DNA to the federal government for their database?

I thought cameras everywhere were bad, and now they're hoarding our DNA information too. Sometimes I want to live underground.

I don't have a problem with that.

My only issue with cameras is, the thought that I might be on film picking my underwear out of my ass crack.
That's a small price for me if it solves crimes and gets the perps off the street.
If I turn in my DNA and my uncle, brother, sister or cousin gets exposed to an unsolved crime then I would not feel bad. I would feel like a hero.

I wouldn't have an issue with anyone in my family getting busted, I just feel like I should live my life in a tin foil hat at this point. I find it disturbing that they know so much about it and I do NOT like it one bit.

Maybe if I pick my nose and wedgies on camera all the time the government will leave me the fuck alone forever, thanks for the inspiration!
