Police arrested an Alachua couple who they say hit children who were under their care with a belt and abused drugs in front of them, including cocaine and marijuana.
Lequesha Sermons, 34, and Hal Black, 57, have in the last month hit five children staying with them with a belt and their hands, according to an Alachua Police Department arrest report.
The children, who range in age from 7 to 13, also witnessed Sermons and Black smoke marijuana and use a straw to snort cocaine, the report said.
One of the children reported that Black burned him with a cigarette, the report said.
Sermons was arrested on two counts of child cruelty and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
