The father of a boy who was found dead at a home in Indian Trail over the weekend was charged with murder, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office.
Alden John Whitehead, 30, was also charged with child abuse inflicting serious injury.
Preliminary autopsy results revealed Louis-Charles Gilbert Chenier died from blunt force trauma. The boy would have turned 3-years-old next month.
Deputies said they responded to a cardiac arrest call after the mother came to pick up the child at Whitehead's house.
The mother told investigators she found her son unresponsive on a bedroom floor, and Whitehead was somewhere else in the house.
First responders came to the scene, but the child had passed away.
