Death, horror, torture
Not much remains of Mystery Man's hiking ensemble: a faded canvas jacket dripping dirt and pine needles; a button-down shirt that might have been greenish once; a duffel bag, maybe green, with "Hollywood Park" emblazoned on the side.
A silver digital watch sat beside the jacket on a table at the Contra Costa Coroner's Bureau. Not much remained of his tattered jeans, coroner's Sgt. Bryan Reynolds explained. And investigators tastefully omitted the worn leather shoes, ankle-high, and containing remnants of their owner.
But Contra Costa County investigators really hoped that people would focus on the face, rendered with unusual precision in clay atop John Doe's skull, and displayed Thursday for regional media.
Do you know him?
