Mallory McGrail is accused of leaving her dog in a hot car despite being warned by law enforcement not to.

McGrail, 35, is charged with cruelty to animals, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and resisting arrest.

On Thursday, McGrail came to the Rockingham County Courthouse and tried to park in a restricted area of the courthouse parking lot. Bailiffs came up to her car and saw a dog in the vehicle.

Bailiffs told McGrail she couldn’t go into the courthouse and leave the dog alone in the car because of the heat.

McGrail became argumentative, drove away and parked the vehicle at a business neighboring the courthouse, the release said. She then got out, leaving the dog inside.

Bailiffs located McGrail’s car and contacted Rockingham County Animal Control, who was able to free the dog from the vehicle. The interior of the car was 100.2 degrees Fahrenheit at the time the dog was freed.

McGrail was arrested inside the courthouse. The release said she was combative while being placed in handcuffs.

Animal Control took custody of the dog. It is expected to recover.

So, first she had the bright idea to drive to the court, (where presumably there will be law enforcement officials aplenty) bringing her dog with her, lord knows why.

Next she decides that the best place to park her car is where it's guaranteed to be noticed.

She follows this brilliant move by arguing with the people who were guaranteed to notice her.

And then, after being told she could not leave her dog in the car, she super-stealthily parked her car in the next damn lot over, and goes back like they couldn't possibly figure out what she'd done.

That's like a minimum of 4 layers of stupidity.
