"According to Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) on Tuesday, July 30 deputies responded to a home regarding a domestic battery investigation.
The victim, Daniel Lee Reid told deputies in the report his mother 46-year-old Latina Marie Reid grabbed him causing scratches to his arms, neck, and torso.
The report says Daniel Reid stated his mother pushed him causing him to fall to the ground then she struck and kicked him.
According to the report, the victim did not say what caused the altercation, but the report did show Latina Reid was arrested for domestic battery.
During the investigation, the report says deputies discovered the home was in deplorable conditions with thousands of cockroaches, spiders, and various bugs.
According to the report, 24-year-old Daniel Lee Reid and 58-year-old James RayReid stated they are the daily caregivers for the children and are responsible for their welfare.
The deputy stated in the report, the house smelled of trash, rotten food, and animal feces.
In the report, the deputies walk through the home and note that the house had no furniture or beds for the children. The report says those items were thrown out because of an infestation of bed bugs.
The report reveals the children were sleeping on a pallet on the bug-infested floor of the home.
One pack and play was found in the children’s room and it was infested with cockroaches says the report.
When the deputy went inside the kitchen, the report says the pantry contained open food containers with hundreds of cockroaches inside the food.
The refrigerator had rotten food and cockroaches inside it and no food in the home appeared to be safe for consumption says the report.
The deputy stated in the report, the children were observed eating shredded cheese as their dinner entrée and had roaches crawling on it.
The report says the deputy had to intervene to make Reid move the food from the children.
The children were dirty and two wore very soiled diapers, says the report.
The deputy said he also observed one child sleeping on the floor with cockroaches crawling on him and another child sleeping in a pack and play with cockroaches crawling around his nose and mouth.
OCSO deputy stated in the report, the children had skin irritations, bug bites and one child had a cigarette burn on his upper left arm.
The report says it’s unclear at this time if the cigarette burn was inflicted intentionally."
