According to reports, a passenger dressed in clown attire sparked the massive brawl in a buffet area, which left six people - including three women and one staff member - with "significant bruising and cuts," police said.

The cruise ship was sailing from Bergen in Norway to Southampton, England.

Onlookers fled in fear during the violent affair, which occurred early Friday morning during a black-tie evening of heavy drinking and "patriotic" partying on deck.

Wow what an informative article
Still gathering info from other sites.
Just for you jack.

.
Plates and furniture were reportedly used as weapons in a mass brawl on a cruise between Norway and England sparked by a clown.
British police are investigating the fight on the P&O vessel Britannia, with two arrests made when it docked in Southampton.

Reports suggest the incident was fuelled by large amounts of alcohol. Passengers attending a booze-fuelled 'patriotic' black-tie event were upset when a man dressed as a clown showed up.

No doubt.

"One witness, part of a group involved in the trouble, explained to staff that things kicked off when another passenger appeared dressed as a clown,” he wrote.

"This upset one of their party because they'd specifically booked a cruise with no fancy dress. It led to a violent confrontation."
Someone's got a thing about clowns.

"Chairs and plates were being thrown, people were very angry."
My word!

However, a P&O spokeswoman said a clown was not the cause of the fight, but refused to say what was.
The plot thickens. I bet buttocks were involved.

What the hell is patriotic partying?
Celebrating Boris Johnson as new Prime Minister ? Plus the recent Cricket Championship win by milliseconds. Some people are feeling very celebratory.

If this was an old movie plot, the clown would have been a diversionary tactic while thieves robbed the pursers office for Lady Smythe-Farquharson's legendary pearls.

they take their formal wear dinners seriously and if you aren't dressed as a penguin and try to look like It your dead meat, lol
This all happened the morning after a black tie dinner. Everyone was at this point dressed in red/wht/blue waving little flags until the clown showed up.

report complete with the report of the journalist that I had originally seen his take on twitter right after it happened in atypical British form he had snuck into the fray with and behind the waiters to see what was going on and get a scoop: His remarks are still probably up on twitter and he is hysterical
A female entertainer who works on the Britannia had claimed a clown crashed a black-tie party held in the 16th-floor restaurant, prompting anger from the other passengers.

Richard Gaisford, a reporter for ITV's Good Morning Britain, was on board and said staff were told the incident was sparked by the appearance of the clown by a member of a group involved in the brawl.

He added: "The buffet area was immediately sealed off as medical teams went to help the injured.

But P&O Cruises has since said a clown was not the cause of the "mass brawl" which broke out on the British cruise ship leading to two arrests.
