Driver tries to trade Xanax pill for gasoline

ELKHART -- Elkhart authorities arrested a Mishawaka man Friday after he tried to put gas in the tank by trading prescription drugs to the attendant.

About 10 p.m., police were called to the Martin's Super Market in the 1200 block of North Nappanee Street after the man pushed a van up to the gas pumps, approached the clerk and offered to trade a Xanax tablet for gasoline.

The clerk turned down the popular anxiety medication and notified store security, who called Elkhart police to the scene.
