The 18-year-old son of Alton Sterling is accused of raping an 8-year-old boy while he was babysitting the child last weekend, according to Baton Rouge Police.

Cameron Sterling is accused of taking the child into a bedroom, locking the door and then raping the child, according to his arrest warrant.

The mother of the 8-year-old asked Cameron Sterling what had occurred, but the 18-year-old denied anything happened, the warrant says. However, he told her that he had some type of episode at the time, according to the warrant.

Sterling was booked into Parish Prison on a count of first-degree rape.

Police were called at around 12.30am on December 9, after the incident was reported to authorities and Sterling is currently being held in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Sterling was left alone with the boy and two other children for around 90 minutes before their mother returned home and was informed of what had allegedly happened by her son.

Following this information she questioned the young child who apparently told her that Sterling had performed oral sex on him.

Sterling, who was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, has previously been diagnosed with severe depression and bi-polar disorder, reports the Advocate.

Alton Sterling's 18-year-old son, who is accused of raping an 8-year-old boy while babysitting the child in December, is currently not competent to stand trial, a state judge ruled Thursday.

District Judge Don Johnson, who had appointed three doctors to examine Cameron Sterling, issued his ruling after reviewing their reports.

Prosecutor Larry McAlpine and one of Sterling's attorneys, Dedrick Moore, said there is a consensus among the doctors that Sterling is not competent to proceed to trial, but the doctors believe his competency can be restored.

Johnson ordered Sterling transferred from East Baton Rouge Parish Prison to a state mental facility in Jackson for treatment. The judge will review Sterling's progress in August.

One of Alton Sterling's sons was indicted on first-degree rape counts involving two 8-year-old boys.

Cameron Sterling, 20, of Baton Rouge, was first arrested in December 2018 and accused of raping one of the boys while he was babysitting the child earlier that month.

Another arrest warrant was filed last August that accused Sterling of sexually assaulting another boy in November 2018. That boy was staying at a friend's house where Sterling was present, the warrant states.
Because Sterling was 18 at the time of both alleged incidents, he would face a mandatory sentence of life in prison if convicted of first-degree rape.

A Baton Rouge state district judge had found Sterling incompetent to proceed with his case in February 2019, but another judge last August found him competent after he received treatment.
