A Connecticut community is reeling after authorities said a boy killed his sister and seriously wounded his mother in a stabbing.
Police said the stabbing occurred Monday at about 3.30pm in West Hartford, Connecticut.
The mother was said to have called 911 to report that her 12-year-old son had stabbed her as well as her daughter, a juvenile who was also the boy's sister, at their home, according to
NBC Connecticut.
Both mother and daughter were then taken to the hospital.
The young girl died from her injuries, while the mother is said to be in stable condition.
The boy, meanwhile, was taken to a children's hospital where he was treated for a minor injury.
The boy was arranged Tuesday afternoon and charged with one count of Murder with Special Circumstances and one count of Assault in the First Degree,
Fox 61 reported.
He is now said to be in the custody of the Connecticut Judicial Marshals.
Although authorities have not yet released identifying details about the family members involved in the alleged stabbing, the West Hartford Mayor's office said the family is the Murphy-Curtins.
West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor released a statement from the family involved in Monday's altercation, stating the family is 'enduring a very painful and unimaginable loss' and asks for privacy.
