A Connecticut community is reeling after authorities said a boy killed his sister and seriously wounded his mother in a stabbing.

Police said the stabbing occurred Monday at about 3.30pm in West Hartford, Connecticut.

The mother was said to have called 911 to report that her 12-year-old son had stabbed her as well as her daughter, a juvenile who was also the boy's sister, at their home, according to NBC Connecticut.

Both mother and daughter were then taken to the hospital.

The young girl died from her injuries, while the mother is said to be in stable condition.

The boy, meanwhile, was taken to a children's hospital where he was treated for a minor injury.

The boy was arranged Tuesday afternoon and charged with one count of Murder with Special Circumstances and one count of Assault in the First Degree, Fox 61 reported.

He is now said to be in the custody of the Connecticut Judicial Marshals.

Although authorities have not yet released identifying details about the family members involved in the alleged stabbing, the West Hartford Mayor's office said the family is the Murphy-Curtins.

West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor released a statement from the family involved in Monday's altercation, stating the family is 'enduring a very painful and unimaginable loss' and asks for privacy.

I wonder if he was mentally ill and dangerous and they were unable to get help for him? Or did this come out of the blue?

I am going to be seriously annoyed if they try saying he didn't know what he was doing. Doesn't understand the consequences of such things cause he is just a kid.

A 12-year-old Connecticut boy was charged with murder after he fatally stabbed his twin sister and injured his mother who is a prominent lobbyist, according to reports.

The boy, who has not been named, was charged Tuesday with one count of murder and one count of first-degree assault, West Hartford police said. The boy was arraigned at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries following the stabbing that seriously injured his mother, Janemarie Murphy, 56, and killed his 12-year-old sister, Brigid Curtin, the Hartford Courant reported.

Police received a 911 call about 3:30 p.m. Monday from a woman who said her son stabbed her and her daughter. Officers arrived at the scene to find all three at the home.

They were rushed to the hospital where the girl later died. The state medical examiner on Wednesday ruled her death as a homicide due to the stab wounds to her neck and torso, FOX61 reported.

Murphy, a well-known lobbyist at the state Capitol, was identified by her employer, Murtha Cullina LLP, as the victim in the stabbing. Murphy is said to be in hospital in stable condition.

A 12-year-old Connecticut boy accused of stabbing his twin sister to death has been released from a hospital and transported to a juvenile detention center as state officials grapple with what to do with him.

The boy, whose name has not been released because he is a minor, allegedly stabbed his sister Brigid Curtin twice in the neck and torso before stabbing and critically wounding their mother JaneMarie Murphy at the family's home in a wealthy West Hartford neighborhood on December 17.

After the attacks, the suspect, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where he was arraigned last week.

He faces charges of murder with special circumstances and first-degree assault in Brigid's death as well as assault for stabbing Murphy. Police have not revealed a motive in the stabbings.

Judicial officials and attorneys have been struggling to determine where the boy - one of the youngest murder defendants in Connecticut history - should be placed as the juvenile detention center is not considered to be a long-term solution, the Courant reports.

The case will be tried in juvenile court and kept sealed because of his age.

According to Deputy Chief State’s Attorney Kevin Lawlor, the maximum punishment for a person 14 or younger would be 30 months of probation supervision with or without residential placement, minus any time spent in pretrial detention.

After the boy serves his juvenile sentence, the state could ask a judge to commit him to the state's children's psychiatric center if he is considered a danger to himself or to others. Should that happen, he could be held in the psychiatric facility until he is 20 years old.

Speaking about this particular case, a state juvenile official told the Courant: 'Coming up with an appropriate response to a young child charged with a serious crime such as murder presents a difficult challenge for the court because it is uncommon and because the court has to determine the needs of the child and at the same time balance the need to protect public safety.'

Hopefully, he's placed in the phychiatric ward until he's at least 20 ..

Chances are, he'll end up right back here on his 20th or earlier ..

Cage the filth for the rest of his life

Terrifying that state doesnt permit these animals to serve anything but juvenile sentences.
