Police say the body of a baby was found in a dormitory bathroom at a college in Ohio.

Authorities say campus safety officials at Hiram College contacted police Friday morning and said that they found the body of a baby in a garbage bag.

Police in Hiram say they’re investigating along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

A Hiram College spokeswoman says the college is cooperating with law enforcement.

The discovery was made by the cleaning crew.

The Portage County Coroner Dr. Dean DePerro said it's unclear how long the newborn had been there.

The baby boy was either full-term or nearly full-term. It's unclear whether the infant was delivered alive or stillborn.

Dr. DePerro, said the mother was also identified late Friday night and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The remains were transferred to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner for a full autopsy.

Well, there's always a first time!

Plan b at any local drug store eh,a actual abortion early on eh, finding a family before coming full term and adoption eh, wearing baggy clothes and pretending it isn't happening and a hefty bag in a bathroom, yea that's the ticket.

The death of a newborn baby found in the trash in a Hiram College dorm bathroom has been ruled a homicide by the Portage County coroner.

The baby was discovered in a garbage bag by a cleaning crew in October 2019. The baby boy was either full-term or nearly full-term.
The mother was identified and taken to a local hospital for treatment at the time. No charges have been filed in the case.

Hiram Police Chief Brian Gregory said the coroner's report was sent to the prosecutor's office for consideration of charges. He emphasized that the case was ruled a homicide only by the coroner's office at this time.

A woman identified through DNA evidence as the mother of a newborn baby found dead in a trash can at Hiram College in October has been arrested and charged with murder.

The woman, identified as Breyona Reddick, 18, of Cleveland, was arrested according to Portage County jail records.

Reddick was charged with aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, endangering children, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Jenelle Bayus, a spokeswoman for Hiram College, said Reddick was a student at the college earlier in the school year but is not currently a student.

After an examination by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the baby’s death was ruled a homicide. The coroner’s report says the baby died of asphyxiation due to exposure and postpartum inattention.

Portage County Coroner Dean DePerro said the baby boy was full-term at birth.
The baby was found in a trash can in a women’s bathroom in Whitcomb Hall around 11 a.m. Oct. 18, according to an initial report from the Hiram Police Department obtained by the Record-Courier.

Bayus said the baby was buried in November in a private service.

According to the coroner’s report, the baby was alive for no more than an hour and was likely born on Oct. 18, 2019. The baby was found in a clear plastic trash bag in a Hiram College residence hall with numerous bloody white paper towels in the bag as well as a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, a pair of grey women’s panties, a feminine hygiene product wrapper and a roll of paper towels.

The umbilical cord was still attached.

Hiram Police Chief Brian Gregory, who wrote the report, said the trash bag was tied shut and laying on the floor of a second-floor restroom before housekeeping staff put it on a utility cart and took it to the rear of the building, where a maintenance worker discovered the baby.

In the report, Gregory wrote that the trash bag contained what appeared to be a deceased newborn, which was verified by a Hiram Fire Department squad member on duty.

The 19-year-old mother of a baby found dead in a dorm bathroom at Hiram College pleaded not guilty Friday morning.

Reddick is being held in the Portage County jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash or surety bond. After an examination by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the baby’s death was ruled a homicide. The coroner’s report says the baby died of asphyxiation due to exposure and postpartum inattention.
Reddick’s attorney, Nathan Ray, said Reddick graduated from John Adams High School, a public school on the east side of Cleveland in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. She was on the track team and a cheerleader, he said, and due to her GPA got a full scholarship to Hiram College last year.

“These are serious offenses and we realize the seriousness of them, Judge,” Ray said during the hearing.
He said her family would support her if she was able to leave jail, but Judge Becky Doherty declined to allow Reddick out of jail on a personal recognizance bond.

Thank you Judge Doherty.

A Cleveland woman charged with aggravated murder after her newborn was found in a trash bag at Hiram College in late 2019 has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said that 21-year-old Breyona R. Reddick's plea on Friday was part of a negotiated deal, with a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison. Reddick's sentencing is pending a pre-sentencing investigation and a report by the court's adult probation department.

"It's obviously a difficult case from many perspectives," said Vigluicci.

A jury trial in the case had been scheduled to begin April 19.

Breyona "I don't remember shit!" Reddick

Breyona Reddick was 19 when she killed her newborn in 2019. Janitors found the corpse. As part of a plea deal, she's plead guilty, finally, and faces 11 years. Zero sympathy from me. Cuz there are condoms, morning after pills, and abortions. I hope the evil gutter slut serves every day of the 11 years.

Breyona Reddick was sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of 15 years, based on good behavior.

She was indicted in March of 2020 on multiple counts, including aggravated murder, in the death of a newborn. The newborn’s body was found in a trash bag in the bathroom at a Hiram College residence hall in October of 2019.

The coroner’s office determined the cause of death was asphyxiation and was ruled a homicide.

The woman who pleaded guilty in the death of her newborn baby in a Hiram College dormitory is appealing her sentence.

A notice of appeal on behalf of Breyona R. Reddick was filed with the Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals on July 20, about a month after the Cleveland woman was sentenced in Portage County Court of Common Pleas to 10 to 15 years in prison.
During her June 21 sentencing, Aaron Schwartz, Reddick's trial attorney, requested that Judge Becky Doherty sentence Reddick to probation. Schwartz said Reddick had no prior criminal history, had been a good student with a "bright future," and has good family support and another son, born this past January. A defense sentencing memorandum included 10 letters and emails of support for Reddick from family members and others who know her.

But Prosecutor Stephen Michniak told Doherty that while Reddick's situation is "sad," so is the baby's death and he believed that more accountability was needed than probation would provide. Doherty said she agreed and the sentence she imposed was close to the 11 to 16 1/2 year maximum state law allows.

Doherty also told Reddick she had up to 30 days to file an appeal of the sentence
